Turn off your phone.
It's important for your phone to be turned off before you access the SIM card: Android - Press and hold the Power button on the top or side of the phone, then tap Power off when prompted.
Your contacts, messages, apps, wallpaper and pretty much anything else that isn't your phone number will stay on your phone – even if you take the SIM card out. No need to worry about losing your email settings or your entire contact list (we get it, nobody knows anyone's phone number anymore).
Answer. No. SIM cards do not store data.
When you insert your SIM card into a different compatible or unlocked phone, you can instantly use your existing phone number and cellular service on your new phone. We'll show you you how to make sure your SIM card is compatible with your new phone, and how you can easily transfer the SIM card between phones.
But people seem to forget (or not know) about wiping the phone's internal memory. That's where we found data on the five phones that still contained some. Removing the SIM card stops the phone from communicating with the network, but doesn't erase the email and contact lists already on the phone.
Data that SIM cards contain include user identity, location and phone number, network authorization data, personal security keys, contact lists and stored text messages. SIM cards allow a mobile user to use this data and the features that come with them.
This is because the SIM card does not hold any data other than the credentials to log on to the carrier's cellular network. If your Phone Number is being changed, then you may lose your voicemails unless your carrier agrees to transfer them to your phone number.
No they will not be deleted. All modern-day phones store the text messages in their own memories, and removing or changing sim card wouldn't delete the messages from the phone.
Before switching SIM cards between phones, it's important to back up your phone to make sure you don't lose any important files and move all the important data to the right place.
They are not stored on the SIM card. Have you not copied them to your syncing computer?
It is not absolutely necessary to power-down the phone to remove/replace a SIM card, but it would add a level of "safety" when handling electronic equipment.
Before you begin
Make sure that you have a backup of your device. Have your Apple ID and password ready. Transfer your SIM card from your iPhone, iPad, or eSIM. If your new device needs a different SIM card than what you have, contact your carrier.
The iPhone keeps all data in the phone, rather than the SIM. So changing the SIM has no effect on contacts, etc. In fact, iPhone doesn't even let you store contacts on the SIM if you want to, although it does allow you to import any existing contacts on the SIM from the card.
Text messages are stored on your phone, not on your Sim. Therefore, if someone puts your Sim card into their phone, they will not see any text messages that you have received on your phone, unless you have manually moved your SMS's to your Sim.
Your iPhone doesn't store contacts on the SIM card. If you want to transfer contacts between iPhone devices, you can use iCloud to back up or transfer content between devices.
You can back up the contacts stored on your phone or SIM card. If you lose or need to replace your phone, you can restore these contacts on the new phone. Restoring data varies by phone and Android version. You can't restore a backup from a higher Android version onto a phone running a lower Android version.
If you need to quickly transfer phone numbers from one device to another - exporting them to the storage on your SIM card is an effective way - however, only phone numbers and names will be transferred to a SIM card. Any addresses, email addresses or other information will stay on the device.
SMS messages and contacts
Entries that contain multiple phone numbers and additional phone numbers are usually not stored on the SIM card.
Are passwords stored on SIM card? Additionally, SIM cards store two passwords: your Personal Identification Number (PIN) and your Personal Unblocking Key (PUK). The PIN code is required to unlock the SIM card when inserting it into a new phone or after a reboot.
Each SIM stays active for 60 days, after which it goes inactive. There is then a 60 days grace period, however, if you do not top up within this time the SIM will expire. This means, you will not be able to make or receive calls, including calls to emergency numbers.
One last thing before you perform a factory reset: it's time to remove your SIM card if you have one. Removal of the SIM card does not affect the reset process. In fact, the same reset process runs on your iPhone whether it uses a SIM card or is designed for CDMA networks.
Go to the Settings menu, tap General, select Reset, then Erase All Content. With an Android phone, conduct a factory reset by tapping Menu, then select Settings, Privacy, and Factory Data Reset. To remove all data, press Reset Phone.
In the case of phones with a SIM tray on the side or top of the Android handset, a SIM-ejector tool or bent paperclip can be used to pop the tray out. Once again, we recommend you turn the phone off before you begin the process of replacing the SIM with the new chip.
