Typically, when a person is robbed, or discovers something has been stolen from them, contacting the police is the first step. If you know the perpetrator, depending on the specific facts of the situation, you may not want to involve police.
File a Police Report
Once you have determined your property has been stolen, you should consider filing a police report. This can be an important step if you later need to file an insurance claim or file a small claims lawsuit against the person who took your property as it helps you build your evidence.

Theft (stealing in secret) is punished by the amputation of the offender's right hand, and armed or highway robbery may be punished by execution, crucifixion, or amputation of hands and feet from opposite sides of the body, depending on the severity of the offense.

Reasons for Shoplifting

The difference between petty theft and grand theft is the value of the stolen property. You may be charged with petty theft for taking money or property valued less than $950.
