To break things down even further, the same study showed men with full beards to be the most masculine, aggressive, and socially mature, while light stubble was preferred for both short and long-term partners. In other words, anyone who wore some type of facial hair was found to be more attractive in general.
Another study found that men with beards may be seen as more masculine, mature and as having a higher social status. These traits are clearly important contributors to the overall sense of attractiveness.
Women may find cleaned shaved men more approachable as a man with a clean shave looks younger and less aggressive than a guy with a full beard style. Beard is good, but a clean shave gives man a more well-groomed look. It gives you a look of sophistication, according to some women.
According to one study, women favor heavy stubble. Particularly the growth that equates to about ten days of not shaving. Based on this research, women rated heavy stubble as being most desirable and most indicative of maturity, dominance, and aggression.
Many women like clean-shaven men. They see them as well-groomed, caring, looking good. They like the smooth skin and the "I'm looking after myself and I'm clean" look. Women love men with a well-groomed look, that's obvious.
Still others have found that a mixture of mature features (large lower jaw, prominent cheekbones, and thick eyebrows) and neotenous features (large eyes and small nose) is the most desirable configuration of male faces (Cunningham, Barbee, & Pike, 1990).
A shaved face makes a guy look younger and fresher, and suggests an easy-going charming personality. Women tend to find a jovial nature more appealing when choosing a life-partner, than serious or unkempt-looking guys.
Your beard keeps the moisture from your sweat close to your face. When a breeze comes through, you feel nice and cool. So if you're one of the newly bearded and worry about keeping your beard into the summer, don't. Your beard won't make you any warmer than normal.
“Facial hair enhances masculine facial features,” he says. “It gives the appearance of having a longer face and a bigger jawline, and it frames the mouth and emphasizes the eyes.”
While there are always variances in what women find attractive, studies show that most find facial hair, including that 5 o'clock shadow, more appealing than a smooth face!
Full beards seem particularly attractive for long-term relationships. These preferences change with the popularity of facial hair. When heavy stubble and full beards were rarer, they were found more attractive.
Case in point: When Australian researchers surveyed women about their body hair preferences on men, they found that women deemed men with "light" body hair—or guys with just a little bit of hair around their chest and belly button—as more attractive than guys with lots of body hair.
Male-specific factors. Women, on average, tend to be more attracted to men who have a relatively narrow waist, a V-shaped torso, and broad shoulders. Women also tend to be more attracted to men who are taller than they are, and display a high degree of facial symmetry, as well as relatively masculine facial dimorphism.
One of the most important characteristics that most women seek is modesty. Outspokenness, charity, and honesty are further feminine appeal traits that are always observed, along with humility. Nothing appeals to a woman more than a man with a great sense of self.
The more physically attractive a man is, the higher his fitness, and the better his genes will be. Women are attracted to masculine traits greater in sexual dimorphism (e.g. strong jawline, a more muscular body, a taller height). Indeed, men who are more masculine tend to have a higher number of sexual partners.
Sexy people are physically as healthy and fit as they are able to be. They live in their bodies, holding them sacred and treating them with care. They are in touch with what energizes or depletes them, and they are devoted to keeping that balance. They love to move, to experience, to seek, and to explore.
A new study found that women perceive men with facial hair to be more attractive as well as physically and socially dominant. Women tend to associate more masculine faces with physical strength, social assertiveness, and formidability.
A new study shows that facial hair says a lot about a man and that attractiveness peaks at the "heavy stubble" phase. Researchers photographed 10 men at four stages of beard growth: clean shaven, 5-day "light" stubble, 10-day "heavy" stubble (shown), and fully bearded.
Goatee looks especially good on slim, angular faces and can make a round face look slightly slimmer. It's great on guys with short or curly hair.
As a rule of thumb, 3 mm is considered the perfect stubble length, though lighter-colored facial hair may need to be left to grow a little longer to be noticed.
