A Howler from Dumbledore, addressed to Petunia, said 'Remember my last' – no doubt referring to the letter which he left with baby Harry, on the doorstep of Privet Drive.
Her last line there is, "You didn't just lose a mother that night in Godric's Hollow, you know. I lost a sister." Since Aunt Petunia usually prefers not to acknowledge Harry's mother at all, it's a surprisingly sweet moment. In the book, she uses her last words to say "Well — goodbye" to Harry.
Dumbledore responded saying that Petunia could not study at Hogwarts due to her being a Muggle and even though he responded kindly, Petunia felt hurt and left out. From that point on, Petunia wanted nothing to do with magic or the wizarding world and frequently called Lily a "freak".
This Howler was written by Albus Dumbledore to Petunia Dursley on 2 August, 1995, to remind her "of the pact she had sealed by taking Harry Potter" into her home. This Howler ensured Harry Potter continued to reside at the Dursley residence.
She made a promise to Dumbledore
As Lily's last remaining blood relative, if Petunia were to take Harry in it would seal the enchantment and provide him with protection from Voldemort. This would last as long as he could call the place where his mother's blood existed his home.
From sisters to strangers
No doubt Petunia would have been saddened by the news of Lily's death but those complicated emotions – grief, regret and unresolved jealousy – were probably buried in the distractions of housework, gossip and pandering to her son Dudley's every whim.
Petunia never showed any love and affection at all towards Harry because he reminded her of Lily and the wizarding world. She treated him as a waste of space, giving him the cupboard under the stairs at first and making him do all the chores. She, along with Vernon, ignored most of Harry's birthdays.
The fan asked the author if Aunt Petunia was a Squib (a non-magical person who is born to at least one magical parent) and Rowling replied: "Good question. No, she is not, she is not a Squib. She is a Muggle.
Tragically, the last time Petunia ever heard from Lily was an announcement of Harry's birth (which Petunia threw away). Rowling also explained that Vernon hated Harry for the same reason Severus Snape pretended to: He looked too much like his dad.
He was going to say she was only a Muggle. He has already said ”you're a Muggle” to her in a belittling tone the day they first met.
Petunia resented her "freak" sister for being a witch, and was drawn ever-closer into the bland lifestyle of her husband. Vernon struggled to accept that such people existed in his world of order and problems were sparked once introduced to each other.
Jacob's arc has been one of few bright lights of the series. Queenie and Jacobs' marriage is a joyous moment for the characters after their victory, but Albus is forced to watch from afar. He's dealing with his own heartbreak. During the battle in Bhutan, Albus had been freed from his blood pact with Grindelwald.
Of course Rowling later fleshes out Petunia's character, explaining to readers that Petunia desperately longed to go to Hogwarts, even penning a letter to Dumbledore asking for admission.
'Remember my last'
Petunia's disdain for Harry was most likely born from a long-standing jealousy of her magical sister, Lily. A Howler from Dumbledore, addressed to Petunia, said 'Remember my last' – no doubt referring to the letter which he left with baby Harry, on the doorstep of Privet Drive.
He deserved redemption for suffering through the consequences of his father and his own behavior. His childish wish of becoming a Death Eater like his father was broken when he realized it was just that: a childish fantasy. The children at Hogwarts had to grow up too fast, Draco included.
In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Dobby is freed from his servitude after Harry tricks his owner, Lucius Malfoy, into gifting him a sock. Dobby wears that sock throughout the rest of the series until his death.
Vernon's dislike of Harry, she adds, “stems in part, like Severus Snape's, from Harry's close resemblance to the father they both so disliked”.
As an unqualified wizard who didn't finish his education, Hagrid was not technically allowed to perform magic.
Spoilers for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child follow. They spent so much time at loggerheads while Harry stayed at Privet Drive but a stray reference in Cursed Child revealed that they remained in touch, which puts an interesting perspective on their relationship...
Figg is a Squib and a member of the Order of the Phoenix. Apparently, she was stationed to live near Harry in order to keep an eye on him and the Dursleys.
The first one is the fact their initial meeting and resulting relationship was very bad: He jumps out the bushes and calls her younger sister a witch before she recognizes him and judges his appearance. He calls her a muggle dismissively which she also takes as an insult.

6 The Dursleys Kept Harry's Baby Blanket
Dudley found it in Aunt Petunia's belongings after she passed away and sent it to Harry. This insinuates that Petunia held onto it for years, in spite of her resentment toward the Wizarding World and Harry, because it was another piece of Lily.
In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, after Petunia receives a Howler from Dumbledore, she tries to save Harry's life by allowing him to stay at their Privet Drive residence.
Both Lily and James Potter were killed by Voldemort aged 21 at Godric's Hollow on 31 October 1981, when Harry was just 1 year old, And the rest of the story, you no doubt know.
