One look at the dairy aisle of your local grocery store makes it clear that there are a lot of options out there if you want to add yogurt to your diet. But when it comes to yogurt hair masks, not all are created equally. "The best yogurt for all hair types, is natural plain yogurt," says Rojas.
"Yogurt has inherent cooling and anti-inflammatory properties, and that is why it fits perfectly for an ideal skin and hair-care regime. Yogurt works effectively for all hair types, especially in cases of dandruff. Make a mix of yogurt with lemon juice and white vinegar and apply on the scalp.
When consumed regularly, the proteins inside yogurt help build strong hair and nails. But what you probably didn't know is that these same proteins also work wonders when applied topically. “Greek yogurt makes an excellent hair mask,” says Anne Buhrdorf, founder of HAIRGURT, a line of yogurt-infused hair products.
Mix three teaspoons of honey and two tablespoons of olive oil in half a cup of yogurt. Apply it on your scalp as well the lengths of your hair. Now, leave it for 30 minutes and then wash it off using a mild shampoo. Try this once a week and you will see the results instantly.
Yogurt + Egg
An egg is rich in proteins and when it is combined with yogurt; your hair gets all the nutrients that it requires for hair growth. Whisk the egg in a bowl and add yogurt to it. Form a paste by blending the ingredients. Apply this paste to your hair and leave it for 30 minutes.
Greek yogurt is made by straining out the extra whey in regular yogurt, which makes the yogurt thicker, creamier and tangier than regular yogurt. While plain Greek yogurt has less sugar and more protein than regular yogurt, the latter delivers almost twice the bone-strengthening mineral calcium.
Excessive greasiness on scalp and hair
The good news is this can be avoided by ensuring you rinse out the yogurt entirely with a gentle shampoo. Note: Some people experience greasiness only when it is used too often (such as multiple times per week). Once-a-week use is deemed to be fine.
For dull, frizzy hair: Add 1 teaspoon of honey, and 2 teaspoons of coconut oil to yoghurt and use as a mask. For oily hair: You could make a hair mask of yoghurt, honey and a pinch of baking soda to cleanse the excess oils off.
Method. Apply a mixture of yogurt and olive oil to damp hair and massage it in. Leave this mixture on for 20 minutes and then rinse with lukewarm water.
The creamy quality of yogurt also makes it a great conditioner. When combined with eggs and a bit of lemon juice, yogurt helps create the ultimate mask to fight hair fall. Mix up one of these masks once or twice a week.
Leave the yogurt on your scalp for 20–30 minutes. If you have long hair, you can tie it up into a bun or wear a shower cap to prevent the yogurt from dripping. Rinse the yogurt off your scalp with lukewarm water. You can use a gentle shampoo and conditioner if you wish.
