Purple shampoo neutralises brassiness but enhances blonde pigmentation. To maintain a silver shade, your shampoo requires a stronger colour neutralisation. Silver shampoo is formulated with deeper purple pigments to target yellow tones in a much stronger way.
Both silver and purple shampoo are designed to neutralise yellow and brassy tones in blonde, silver and grey hair. If you've used either one, you'll have noticed that bright purple hue when you pop the lid and squeeze. Silver shampoo and purple shampoo use purple pigment to lighten and brighten.
Purple shampoo isn't the only option for your blonde locks. If your hair is an icy, whiter blonde, then the Shimmering Silver Shampoo may be a better choice. This silver shampoo fights against the brassy yellow tones and bluer tones that appear in your blonde locks to leave you with radiant shiny hair.
Any or all of these things can cause the hair to turn yellow. Purple shampoo doesn't remove the yellow color but is designed to tone down the yellow in gray and white hair. It tones the color in your hair from warm tones (yellow) to cool (silver).
So, even though purple shampoo is something that's marketed towards blondes, it's something worth investing in if your hair is gray or silver. That way you can ensure your hair stays looking bright and fresh without any of the dulling brassiness or yellowing that can occur.
Silver shampoo is a special shampoo that has specific purple to dark blue-violet pigments. It's used to neutralize yellow, brassy tones. It looks a little scary when you first see it. But this shampoo doesn't turn your hair purple.
Silver shampoo is designed for those with gray or silver hair, and as silver is opposite yellow on the color wheel. This shampoo fights brassy tones of yellow that can appear in your gray locks, and take away from your color. Thirdly, purple shampoo is used for blonde hair or those with blonde highlights.

DON'T use purple shampoo on very dry hair
“Dry areas can absorb product more which could darken the area more than desired,” says Jimmy Green, education manager for hair brands Pureology and Redken. It's important to get the hair into a healthy condition before drenching it in purple shampoo to make it less porous.
It's important to note that the pigment in purple shampoo isn't a lightener or hair dye but a gentle toner that works overtime. So it can't darken your hair or make it any lighter. For this reason, if your hair tone is too dark, it won't make it any brighter.
The brightening effect caused by purple shampoo is actually illusionary. It happens because of an effect called bluing. While your hair might be very slightly darker than before, it will not look darker, because of the ways our eyes perceive color.
Let the shampoo sit in your hair for 3-5 minutes.
This part of the process helps the silver shampoo to soak into your hair and combat any harsh, brassy tones. You can also apply silver shampoo specifically to any yellow-looking sections of hair.
Purple shampoo is designed to be used alongside your regular shampoo and not used daily. Only use 1-2 times a week to see the real benefits and its best not leave it in your hair for more than 5 minutes, as too much of the pigment may be absorbed leaving your hair with a purple or grey tinge.
If you have naturally white or grey hair, purple shampoo can be used in the same way as with bleached hair to remove yellow tones and revive vibrant color.

While it's typically used on blonde hair, it can also get rid of yellow or orange undertones in gray, white, or silver hair. But don't worry. When used correctly, it won't turn your hair purple! All it will do is bring out the cool tones of your hair, creating the illusion of brighter, shinier locks.
After many washes, the silvery hues will begin to fade to its original colour, which is a very light blonde. This will always be the case no matter what hair dyes that you have employed, regardless of whether it was permanent or semi-permanent. This occurs because the silver pigmentation tends to be weaker.
You may experience fading or yellowing. The bleaching process that is required to get your hair to this color is also very damaging, leaving your hair brittle and dry. With the proper care, however, you can enjoy having silver hair with minimal fading, dryness, and brittleness.
A professional in-salon toner is more pigmented than a silver shampoo or purple shampoo that is used at home. However, these products are excellent products to maintain a bright or cool colour between salon appointments.
The instructions on the Matrix So Silver Shampoo and Conditioner bottles advise using the duo once or twice per week. Since my blonde hair gets brassy fairly quickly and I prefer the coolest version of blonde possible, I plan to use the system twice or three times per week.
