The first toothbrush was likely developed around 3000 BCE. This was a frayed twig developed by the Babylonians and the Egyptians. Other sources have found that around 1600 BCE, the Chinese created sticks from aromatic trees' twigs to help freshen their breath. What did humans do before that?
Daily tooth brushing became more common thanks to World War II, when the American army required soldiers to brush their teeth as part of their daily hygiene practices. The first nylon toothbrush was made in 1938, followed by the electric toothbrush in the 1960s.
Salt, rough cloths and charcoal don't fit the definition of gentle dentistry, yet that was the way people would care for their teeth. Often, they would use water and a rough cloth, scrubbing their teeth.

One week without brushing:
As soon as a week goes by, your teeth' enamel will start to break down. The plaque that hasn't been removed will make it easy for bad breath to grow. A dirty tooth will make it hard to clean. You will have a greater chance of getting cavities if you don't brush your teeth for a week.

Risks With Only Brushing Once a Day
Some common issues associated with habitually only brushing your teeth once a day are an increased risk of: Cavities. Advanced decay that could require additional dental treatment such as a root canal. Gum disease.
Frank Medina, otherwise known as the "King of Windmills," has never had a cavity in his life. That would not be so unusual, except that he is 94 years old. Ripley's Believe it or Not calls him the “oldest man in the world with all his teeth who has never had a cavity."
Most animals don't get cavities because their diets aren't high in sugar. They also chew on more hard or rough materials than we do, such as bone or tree bark, which help to keep their teeth clean. However, domesticated animals can develop cavities if they eat a lot of sugar, so our dentist in Woodstock, Dr. Kenneth R.
"Australian indigenous populations' diet would often be quite abrasive with particles of dirt and sand in food," Dr Aldritt adds. "They did show more wear and tear on their teeth from abrasion but they didn't experience as much tooth decay. They also used kangaroo tendons to clean between their teeth."
"I don't recommend it because it can cause more tangles and oil buildup," he explains. To add to his response, when you do not comb your locks, your hair dries in odd shapes (a not cute one, BTW) and may look buhaghag and frizzy.
But since it's so deeply ingrained into almost everyone's routine, it might surprise you to learn that about 20% of people aren't properly brushing each morning and evening. That can ultimately cause some serious consequences for gum health, and could even end up a contributing factor in emergency dental care.
