Apple introduced Picture in Picture mode back in 2020 with the release of iOS 14, which allows you to watch videos in a floating window anywhere on your phone or tablet.
Picture-in-picture was introduced to iPhones in iOS 14, which was released in 2020, but on the iPad it dates back to 2015's iOS 9.
The first PiP was seen on the televised coverage of the 1976 Summer Olympics where a Quantel digital framestore device was used to insert a close-up picture of the Olympic flame during the opening ceremony.
YouTube did mention that PiP is still available for the regular YouTube app, but only for premium members on Android, which wasn't the case until pretty recently (it's been widely available on iOS).
Now, YouTube had rolled out support for PiP mode on Google's Android mobile operating system with the launch of Android Oreo back in 2017 but, Apple users couldn't access this feature up until now.

In iOS 14, Apple has now made it possible to use PiP on your iPhone or iPad — and using it is extremely simple. As you're watching a video, just swipe up to your home screen. The video will continue playing as you check your email, answer a text, or do whatever else you need to do.
With iOS 16, removing items from photos is now easier than ever. If you have an iPhone that runs iOS 16, you have to try out one of the best features. The tool doesn't have an official name, but lets you separate a picture's subject, like a person, from the background.
In iOS 15, if you tap on the new "Info" icon below a photo, you can view the camera that was used to take it, the lens, shutter speed, megapixels, size, aperture, and more, which is all of the EXIF info you can get from the desktop Photos app.
PIP mode is only for iPhone running with iOS 16/15 and iPad running with iOS 16/15. So, when iOS 16/15 Picture in Picture not working, ensure that your device is up-to-date to the required iOS version. To check and update the software on iDevice, follow the below steps: Open Settings > Go to General > Software Update.
Apple rolled out this feature with iOS 14, and since then, several apps have released updates to take advantage of it, including Netflix, FaceTime, Safari, Google Chrome, Amazon Prime Video, and more. Unlike macOS, you don't have to press any option to activate the PiP mode on an iPhone.
While YouTube's picture-in-picture mode was previously removed on the iPhone, it has since returned bringing back a handy feature already enjoyed on some of the best Android phones. It's now available to any one on iOS 15 or above.
