Tell your doctor immediately and stop taking Movicol Flavour Free if you: Get a serious allergic reaction which causes difficulty in breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat. If you feel weak, breathless, very thirsty with a headache, or get puffy ankles. Store the sachets below 30°C.
Polyethylene glycol (Miralax) is preferred over lactulose for the treatment of constipation because it is more effective and has fewer adverse effects. Linaclotide (Linzess) and lubiprostone (Amitiza) are more effective than placebo for chronic constipation.

About macrogol Brand names: Movicol, Laxido, CosmoCol, Molaxole. Macrogol (or macrogols) is a laxative taken to treat constipation (difficulty pooing). Movicol is usually well tolerated although side effects such as abdominal pain & diarrhoea may occur either because of over treatment or because of overflow (see above). Like all medicines, Movicol Lemon-Lime can have side effects. Sometimes people have indigestion, stomach ache or rumbles. You may also feel bloated, suffer from wind, feel sick or vomit, may also experience soreness of the anus (bottom) and may have mild diarrhoea when starting to take Movicol Lemon-Lime.
The resultant liquid can be mixed with anything your child likes, to encourage them to drink it e.g. squash, juice, hot chocolate, milk. DO NOT mix the powder straight into the milk/juice/flavoured drink – it needs to 'bind' with the water first.
