The Clipboard is a holding place on your computer where you can temporarily store data (text, pictures, and so on). When you copy something, your selection is held on the Clipboard, where it remains until you copy something else or shut down your computer.
On one device, copy the text, image, file, or other content as you normally would. The content is automatically added to the clipboard of your other nearby device. It remains there briefly, or until you replace it by copying something else on either device.
When you copy something on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, it's saved to the clipboard, ready to be pasted anywhere. However, your previous clipboard is overwritten and lost forever if you copy something else!
Can I recover my deleted clipboard items? No, you cannot recover your deleted items because the clipboard history is deleted as soon as you manually clear your clipboard, or it is overwritten by newly copied data. So if you accidentally delete something from your clipboard, you cannot recover it.
You can use Universal Clipboard to cut or copy content (a block of text or an image, for example) on your iPhone, then paste it on iPad, on another iOS device, or Mac computer, and vice versa.
The cut command removes the selected data from its original position, while the copy command creates a duplicate; in both cases the selected data is kept in temporary storage (the clipboard). The data from the clipboard is later inserted wherever a paste command is issued.
Forever - so long as the machine remains powered up and you don't copy something else instead.
