Look for Shed Skin and Egg Casings
One of the most obvious signs of an active cockroach nest is shed skin, which cockroaches molt as they grow. Another sign is egg casings, which look like small brown capsules. Look for these items near baseboards, cupboards, and other areas where roaches might be nesting.
Though small, cockroach eggs are not invisible to the naked eye. Cockroach eggs often look like small, dried kidney beans, or darkly colored grains of rice. You won't generally find them out in the open though. If female roaches don't carry the egg sacs with them, they usually leave them in safe, dark places.

Peppermint oil, cedarwood oil, and cypress oil are essential oils that effectively keep cockroaches at bay. Additionally, these insects hate the smell of crushed bay leaves and steer clear of coffee grounds. If you want to try a natural way to kill them, combine powdered sugar and boric acid.
How many roaches in an egg? Each individual egg within an ootheca contains a single developing cockroach nymph. German cockroach eggs for example, can produce as many as 48 baby cockroaches. Even though they don't live very long (between 160 and 450 days, depending on species), they can leave behind a lot of offspring.
Add food. What is this? Another way to lure cockroaches out of hiding – and to make either commercial glue traps or poisoned bait more effective – is to also use food as an additional lure. Breadcrumbs or baby food can be effective lures to draw cockroaches out of their nests and into your traps.
These pests are also quickly adapting to strong pesticides, making them harder to kill with typical chemicals. The infestation won't die overnight, either. It can take around two to three weeks to eliminate all of the roaches in your home.

Create a soapy water solution that you can spray with a bottle. It will only take about 2 – 3 sprays to kill any roaches, as the soapy solution will cover their breathing pores and suffocate them.
