For those interested in men, prime real estate for a tattoo was the upper arm at a 3.8. The upper back and shoulder were not far behind, receiving 3.5 and 3.4 ratings, respectively. Those attracted to women saw a three-way tie between the upper back, shoulder and hips (with a 3.3 rating).
Research has shown that tattoos on more visible areas of the body, such as the arms, neck, and back, are more likely to be viewed as attractive. On the other hand, tattoos on less visible areas, such as the feet and legs, are less likely to be seen as attractive.
– The Research. According to a Polish study published in the Personality and Individual Differences journal, women don't find tattooed men more (or less) attractive. But before you get all riled up, here's what you might want to know... Even though 47 percent of men said tattoos on women were a turnoff, a number of women (38 percent) found tattoos on guys to be unattractive as well. And it seems like the opposite sexes aren't the only ones unhappy about permanent ink.
Women who are looking for one-night stands, secret lovers, and friends-with-benefits will probably like your ink job. According to a survey by the dating app Type, nearly two-thirds of its female users find men with tattoos attractive.
Galbarczyk and Ziomkiewicz's study also revealed that women find tattooed men to be more masculine, dominant, and aggressive, traits associated with both elevated levels of testosterone and overall good health.

Men were more likely than women to report a tattoo, but the highest rates of tattooing were found among women in their 20s (29.4%). Men and women ages 20-39 were most likely to have been tattooed, as were men with lower levels of education, tradesmen, and women with live-out partners.
