People born in India are the UK's largest foreign-born population, totalling an estimated 880,000 in 2020. According to the 2011 census, the cities with the most Indian-born residents are London (262,247), Leicester (37,224), Birmingham (27,206) and Wolverhampton (14,955).
Within London, Southall, Hounslow, Brent, Croydon, Redbridge, Ealing, Barnet, Tooting, Harrow and Wembley, the latter of which is one of the few places outside India where Indians make up the largest ethnic group (almost 4 times larger than the White British population).

The Southall area of Greater London is home to a significant Punjabi population. The total population of Punjabis in the UK is estimated to exceed 700,000. Immigrants from the Pakistani province of Punjab are mainly Punjabi Muslims, with smaller numbers of Christians.
Today, nearly half of England's Gujarati speakers reside in Greater London, where they are predominantly found in the boroughs of Harrow, Brent, Barnet, and Newham. Spanning several generations, many of Leicester's Indian population have family roots in the state of Gujarat and came to the UK via Kenya, Malawi and Uganda. Many are descended from Indians who went to East Africa as traders and indentured labourers under British imperial rule, before emigrating to the UK.

Today, there are 37,700 British nationals living in India, figures released by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office reveal. In other countries in South Asia, the number of British nationals residing are: Pakistan 35,000; Bangladesh 10,000; Sri Lanka 4,800 and Nepal 1,600.
In West London, close to Heathrow Airport, resides one of the UK's largest Indian communities.
They are spread out throughout the country. The largest population of British Sri Lankan Tamils can be found in London, chiefly in Harrow (North West London) and Tooting (South London).
Demographics. When ordered state-wise, the largest population of Punjabis is in Victoria (56,171 individuals), followed by New South Wales (33,435), Queensland (17,991), Western Australia (12,223), South Australia (9,306), the Australian Capital Territory (2,215), the Northern Territory (670) and Tasmania (489).
The reference to India is owed to the abundance of South Asians occupying the district. It was in the 1950s that South Asians began to migrate to this area, mostly for job opportunities.
