Q: Where does Costco get its fuel? A: Costco buys fuel from major refineries and distributors in each area. All Kirkland Signature™ Fuel is guaranteed, just like the merchandise we sell inside the warehouse.
The answer is simple: they just have very loyal customers. To purchase their gas, you have to be a member, and membership sales make up about 75 percent of the chain's profit.

Currently Costco sources its quality fuel from Mobil which is specified to meet Australian Standards.
Otherwise known as Ultra-Premium by some brands, 98 is the highest-octane fuel currently available in Australia. Unleaded 98 provides higher engine power and overall performance in comparison to 91 and 95.
Costco may have the lowest gas prices in your area, but they do not skimp on quality. Kirkland Signature gas is Top Tier, meaning it is high quality and could help keep your engine running at its best. Top Tier is endorsed by many automotive brands, including Toyota, Honda, Ford, GM, BMW, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz.
Good station operation and maintenance means the fuel is filtered and that contaminants, such as sediment and water, do not find their way into our members' vehicles. Costco fuel stations are well-maintained by our capable attendants so you may be confident that the fuel going into your car is clean.
Costco gasoline is practically equal to any other major brand gasoline. You should not notice any difference when filling up your vehicle at Costco as you would with any other brand.
Costco: 5-20c off per litre.
While fuel prices vary between locations, according to Fuel Price Australia they tend to run 5-20c cheaper than city and national averages. (Keep in mind Costco only offers specific fuel types, so they may not carry the kind you need for your vehicle).
Fuel prices are set by the market
There are three main factors which determine how fuel prices are set in Australia, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) states. These are weighing up market costs, the international benchmark prices, and keeping prices competitive with other sellers.
As the ACCC explains, Australia's benchmark prices for petrol and diesel are linked to crude oil prices, since crude oil is a major production input. Crude oil is an internationally traded commodity, and its price is determined by changing supply and demand factors.

There is no inherent reason why you cannot use Costco's premium gas in a luxury car such as a Porsche or Mercedes Benz. it has been years since I've seen a majors gasoline branded tanker. No Shell, No Exxon, No BP tank trucks, etc etc etc. Lends credence to the backstory I heard years ago.
It's just fuel from the same outlets as shell, BP and all the supermarkets.
Kirkland Signature™ Gasoline contains five times the EPA detergent requirement in both regular unleaded and premium grades, and is formulated to clean your engine and help your vehicle run like new. As our valued member, you expect Costco to always offer the finest quality products at the best possible price.
Octane is not an additive to the fuel. Octane levels are the only difference between regular and premium unleaded gasoline sold at Costco. The amount of octane controls how the fuel burns in your engine.
Was just worried since these cars have high performance motors. We use Costco gas in all our BMW and other cars. I even use it in my Bmw m8 v8 with twin turbos. It's perfect and works well.
If, for example, your car says 'premium 95', then it is not recommended to use unleaded 91, as doing so can cause engine knocking and potentially engine failure. This isn't guaranteed to happen of course, but you will probably experience a loss of power, acceleration and fuel economy over time.
Fuels such as 95 or 98 RON (octane rating number) have a higher resistance to burn which indicates higher levels of energy available for the vehicle's engine.
Mixing the grades to get 91 or so shouldn't hurt, but it probably isn't saving you much money. Using anything higher than your manual recommends probably won't help your car's performance – but using lower might save you a few bucks, Leroux says. If you notice knocking, you should switch back.
