"The reasons eye doctors do not recommend to wear eyeliner on the waterline of your eye is because there are specialized glands there that produce and excrete oil.
Love to apply eyeliner along the inside of your eyelids? If you're a fan of this technique (sometimes referred to as “waterlining”), you should know that this blocks the oil glands that secrete oils that protect your cornea. It also can introduce bacteria directly into the eye.
"When makeup is applied to the area known as the waterline, it can potentially block the glands known as meibomian glands that release an oily substance that contributes to the tear film, which can subsequently lead to dry eye or irritation," Garshick said.
"Keep the liner to the top lid for a more lifted, youthful effect." If you really, really want to go after your bottom lash line, Stiles recommends using a lighter color there than you're using on the top. "This will still give you definition, but feels softer and more flattering," she adds.
A little white or nude eyeliner on your bottom lid can work wonders to make you look more awake and refreshed. Gently pull on your under-eye and trace the line between the lower lashes and the inside rim.
Despite what you may have heard, it's not the best idea to apply dark eyeliner to your bottom waterline because this can actually shrink the appearance of your eyes. Instead, apply your go-to eyeliner just below your lower lashes to help make your eyes look bigger.
But using black to line your waterline and the lash line can make you look older. How? Well, using dark colours on the lower lash line can make your eyes appear smaller, enhances crow's feet and make your entire face look tired and droopy.
While you can use eyeliners on your lips, you cannot use lip liners for your lids. That's because the pigments used for the eye area are specially formulated to not cause irritation.
The waterline is the area of skin between the base of the lash line and the cornea, where the eyelids meet when closed. Applying eyeliner to the waterline is a technique known as tightlining, enhancing the eyes and making eyelashes appear fuller.
Wearing eyeliner on the bottom of the eye can brighten the eye, create a smoky look full of sex appeal and drama, or add light definition. However, if overdone, this same look can give the eye a heavy, sagging appearance.
HOW TO PROPERLY APPLY EYELINER? Get close to the mirror and trace a line from the inner corner of the eye to the outer corner. Always keep the line as close to the root of your lashes as possible.
The fix: If you have smaller eyes, you'll want to avoid lining your entire eyes, since doing so can close them off and make them look even smaller. Instead, keep your eyeliner contained to the outer corners of your eyes.
Dr. Carver-Schemper does not recommend doing it at all — and no type of eyeliner is "safe" to put in your waterline either. "It doesn't matter what kind of eyeliner it is, all of them can obstruct the oils glands and cause irreversible gland damage," she said.
Women of any age can wear eyeliner. There is no age limit to apply eyeliner.
Lip liners are typically made with much softer waxes and pigments than those found in eye liner pencils, which can make them more likely to smudge or irritate your eyes.
As a general rule of thumb. You'll want to use a lip liner that's one to two shades darker than your lipstick color, keeping it in the same color family with the same undertones.
A makeup artist once told us that harsh, thick eyeliner will age you like no other, especially if you only apply it to your bottom lash line.
Adding a sweep of eyeliner is an absolute must when doing eye makeup for mature skin over 60. It adds a beautiful structure to the face and can frame your eyes as the standout features they are. A pencil eyeliner is good for aging eyes because it softens the lash line and makes your fringe look fuller.
Allow 12-13 year olds to use concealer for blemishes, eye shadow, eyeliner, powder for oily skin, and a light coat of mascara. Let teens start wearing heavier coverage foundation, bronzer/highlighter, blush, and lipstick.
Using eyeliner or a dark-coloured eyeshadow in this area will make hooded eyes look wider and bigger, which helps conceal the hoodedness. It will also help to create the effect of having liner on the whole lid, even though you would have only applied it to the outer corner.
Applying Black Eyeliner To The Waterline Of Your Eyes
Depending on the technique you use to apply it and the colour you select, eyeliner can amplify or diminish the appearance of the size of your eyes. If you line your eyes with a dark, inky liner, your eyes will appear smaller than they actually are.
The best eyeliner style for small eyes is a thin line along the lash line.
