Red Wine Is Considered "Healthier" for the Heart
Red wine is an alcoholic beverage with a relatively good report for the heart, says Jayne Morgan, MD, a cardiologist.
The American Heart Association says moderate alcohol consumption can help protect against heart disease by raising HDL ("good") cholesterol and reducing plaque buildup in your arteries. Alcohol also has a mild blood thinning effect, which can keep platelets from clumping together to form blood clots.
Drink: Water
Plain old water might be the best thing to drink for overall health, and that includes your heart. Simply put, when you're dehydrated, you body doesn't function well.

People with alcoholic cardiomyopathy and possibly those with other types of cardiomyopathy should abstain from alcohol. Some doctors will advise people with any form of heart failure not to drink alcohol. There seem to be some health benefits associated with drinking moderate amounts of red wine.
Alcohol is a 'depressant' drug, meaning your brain's control of your body is being slowed down. Even a small amount can affect important functions like speech and movement. Drinking very large amounts all at once can slow your heart rate and breathing down to a dangerously low level.
There is no easy way to unclog an artery once plaque has built up. But, dietary choices, exercise, and avoiding smoking can improve cardiovascular health and stop blockages from worsening. In some cases, medication or surgery may be necessary.
After one drink of either red wine or alcohol, blood vessels were more “relaxed” or dilated, which reduced the amount of work the heart had to do.
