People in the US consume an average of 3,868 calories per day, the second-highest number of any country in the world. It is eclipsed only by Bahrain, in the Middle East, where people consumed more than 4,000 calories per day on average.
This shouldn't be much of a surprise, the United States is the biggest fast-food consumer in the world.
India - 3 kg per capita
The world's second most populous, with an astonishing 1.3 billion people, India holds the distinction of consuming the least meat per capita. With its staggering population, this is even more striking, and indeed with only 3 kg of meat per capita per year consumed, no other country eats less.
Madagascar had the WORST SCORE in terms of food quality. An average of 79% of people's consumption is derived from nutrient-poor cereals, roots and tubers, compared to a global average of 47%. It also tied with India in the THIRD WORST POSITION for undernourishment levels.
India, of course, especially the North, is notorious for its late diners. Our meals in restaurants start as early as 7.30pm and the last order is usually taken at 11.30pm. There are even several khau gallis in parts of the country which have street foods sold into the wee hours of the night.

Beef and veal and pig meat each account for between 20 and 30 kg per person. Fish accounts for around 15 kg per person and sheep meat for less than 10 kg per person. In contrast, in Australia's major Asian markets, fish accounts for a much larger share of consumption.
The United States is the biggest consumer of sugar on the globe. According to sources, the country's per capita sugar consumption is 126.4 grams daily. That translates to more than ten times the lowest recommended intake of 11grams per day.
Turkey leads the list with an astounding 199.6 kg of bread consumed per capita, and its diverse bread repertoire includes pide (Turkish flatbread) and simit (sesame-covered bread rings).
The country that consumes the greatest amount of chicken is the United States. Every year, the United States consumes approximately 15,000 metric tons of chicken, placing it significantly in front of the second-place region.
In fact, it's their neighbor China that consumes the most garlic per capita. It also produces the most garlic, producing 80% of the global supply.
The most popular were McDonald's, with 32 percent of respondents saying that it was their favorite, and KFC with 23 percent of respondents. Australian families usually have dinner between 6 and 7pm, but I see older people having dinner as early as 5pm and young busy professionals can have dinner as late as 8 or 9pm.
Spain eats the least fast food of any industrialized country in the world, after Italy. But all that could change as fast food looks set to see an unprecedented boom.
