Now, if that does not sound like the hair cut for your pooch/s, then we have a “Puppy Cut”. This means same length all over but not as short as a summer cut.
The Summer Cut (also called a Puppy Cut) is a popular and easy style for Shih Tzus during warmer months and year round. This cut involves trimming the hair to a relatively short and even length all over the body while leaving facial hair slightly longer.
Essentially, the puppy cut is one length all over. The most common length is between 1-2 inches over the body, legs, tail, head, and ears.
A summer cut is similar to a puppy cut. As the name suggests, this is a popular hot weather clip for heavy-coated breeds. The fur is clipped as short as half to one-quarter inch, sometimes leaving the ears or tail long. Whether to leave some hair long is a matter of personal preference.
The summer cut
Hair and fur all over the body of your puppy will be trimmed really short with an exception of their head and ears. The best part about getting this style is that you can get a fancy head cut and keep the body hair short to give your puppy a unique look which will make it stand out.
A traditional “summer-cut” is a cut that means that all the length comes off the body, legs and skirt, the head gets styled short in proportion with the body length.
The summer cut is a straightforward cut, leaving the coat at a half inch all over the body, saving the facial hair and the tail per the dog parent's specification. You may opt to have a pouf for the head, but a summer cut for the rest of the body.
You don't get any shorter than the zero haircut. A zero cut means your barber won't use a clipper guard. This hairstyle is basically a skin fade or a shaved head.
A teddy bear trim or teddy bear head usually describes a rounded, fluffy shape to the top of the head or entire face, so tends to be less confusing, although that also varies in style and length to suit the dog's size, head shape and coat, and how you want the ears to be.
There's a widespread myth that dogs (and some long-haired cats) should be given a summer trim, but that's not actually the case. In fact, unnecessarily trimming or shaving your pet's fur can interfere with their body's natural ability to cool itself.
Teddy bear cuts are similar to puppy cuts in that they involve an even cut around the whole body. The only difference is that they're geared more towards curly-haired dogs like Poodles, Labradoodles, Goldendoodles, and any other -oodle you can think of!
Once you've successfully acclimated your pup to all-around handling, at or around the 10-12 week mark, you can take her in for the first grooming session (often after the second round of shots). At the latest, the first grooming is recommended before 16-weeks of age.
We recommend introducing your puppy to grooming at 10-12 weeks old, after their second set of vaccinations – even short-haired or smooth-coated puppies. Waiting until later in life could mean that grooming becomes a very stressful experience for your pet.
Summer Cut - The Puppy Cut with Longer Ears and Tail
This style is the same as the puppy cut, but it just keeps the ears and tails long.
The best summer haircuts can be short or long, and the cut can be opted with layers, bangs, or undercut. Summer is all about feeling comfy, young, and free. Pixies and bobs are at the top of the list when thinking of a perfect chop for the hottest season.
Your dog's coat actually acts as an insulator. However, this insulating layer can backfire during continuously hot weather, as it can make it harder for dogs to lower their body temperatures. Without the insulating layer, dogs are susceptible to heat stroke, so don't shave your dog down to the skin.
The teddy bear cut is a Poodle or Doodle cut in which the hair is kept at about 1-2 inches long at all parts of the dog's body, including the face. Traditional Poodle cuts have the face shaved closely to the skin.
A lion cut is for when a cat becomes severely matted. A teddy bear cut is for cats that have no matting, but the owners still want a shortish cut. The lion cut was originally the term used by vets to explain to cat owners what their cat would look like once the cut was completed.
The Teddy Bear Cut: This is basically the opposite of the Lion Cut, where we trim the hair on the head shorter, but leave the hair on the rest of the body longer – it can be clipped to any length, as per the pet parent's preference. The end-result resembles a Teddy Bear.
Number 0 or 0.5 Guard Combs
The #0 haircut – or 1/2 for Wahl clipper users – is, basically, the shortest there is. In fact, this number doesn't have a guide comb; it uses the clippers blades to deliver clean, even, and extremely close cuts. In a #0 haircut, the hair will be at most 1.5mm or 1/16” long.
The easiest haircut for a quick everyday routine is the short pixie, but it has to be really short and works best on hair that isn't wavy. The at-home care is simple, but in order to look sharp you will need to cut it on a monthly basis.
Poodle hair is notoriously hard to groom. Whether you're going for an elaborate grooming style or not, their naturally curly fur demands near-constant brushing, clipping, and trimming. Neglecting a proper grooming regime for your poodle could land you at the veterinarian treating painful skin infections.
These hot days were considered among the worst in Western antiquity, a time when, according to folklore scholar Eleanor R. Long, "all liquids are poisonous, when bathing, swimming, or even drinking water can be dangerous, and a time when no sore or wound will heal properly.
The Lion Cut
Goldstein says that for this shih tzu cut the fur around the dog's face and neck is kept long and trimmed to look like a lion's mane. Then, the hair on their body is shorter, around an inch or two. This cut, along with the teddy bear, is ideal for summer or if you live in a hotter climate.
