Nonetheless, Rhaenyra and Daemon's youngest son becomes King Viserys II
Rhaenyra's second son with Prince Daemon would also later rule as King Viserys II Targaryen, as both sons of his brother Aegon III, Daeron I and Baelor I, later died without issue.
The Dance of the Dragons. A war of succession began with the death of Aegon's grandfather, King Viserys I Targaryen, early in 129 AC. Though Aegon's mother, Rhaenyra Targaryen, had been named heir to the Iron Throne by Viserys, Aegon the Younger's half-uncle, Aegon the Elder, was crowned King Aegon II in King's Landing ...
Rhaenyra has had a tough couple weeks. First, she finds out that her half-brother Aegon II has usurped the throne and that she will have to fight for her claim as queen. Then, she gives birth to a stillborn child. And finally she loses her second eldest son Lucerys to a dragon battle.
Legacy. Since Daemon's body was never recovered from the Gods Eye, singers say that he lived to spend the rest of his days in secret with Nettles. Daemon never achieved his ambition to sit on the Iron Throne, though his sons Aegon III and Viserys II eventually did.
So yes, Aegon II becomes king.
Viserys was succeeded by his eldest son, Aegon IV Targaryen. Some historians suspect that Viserys's death was not natural and that Aegon IV had poisoned him.
Aegon III Targaryen (131 AC to 157 AC)
He succeeded his uncle, Aegon II Targaryen, at the conclusion of the Dance of the Dragons, which saw the victorious supporters of his late mother Rhaenyra Targaryen install him on the throne.
So, the crown passed to Rhaenyra's son Aegon III whose rule was a mournful one as he struggled with the grief of his mother's death and losing most of his family.
Princess Rhaenyra and Prince Daemon's only daughter was stillborn. House of the Dragon depicted this moment in the season 1 finale, adding to the heartbreak of Rhaenyra.
With both Rhaenyra and Aegon gone, there's one clear person to inherit the throne: Rhaenyra's son Aegon, known as “Aegon the younger” in the books (her older sons had all died by this point).
That's right, during the Oct. 2 episode of House of the Dragon, Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) and Daemon (Matt Smith) stopped fighting their feelings for one another and finally got together. However, this was more than just an illicit liaison, as Rhaenyra and Daemon got married at the end of the episode.
As the two dragons struggled in the Battle Above the Gods Eye, Daemon plunged from Caraxes, wielding his sword Dark Sister and stabbing it into Aemond's remaining eye. Both dragons crashed into the Gods Eye, and Vhagar drowned with Aemond's body still chained to the saddle while Caraxes died on the shore.
After Visenya's funeral, we watch Rhaenyra finally be crowned and later on learn that, much like her father, she advocates for peace—much to the disappointment of her husband (and uncle) Daemon. This all changes, however, after finding out about the tragic death of another of her children: Lucerys.
Jace is the oldest son of Rhaenyra and Laenor — or maybe of Rhaenyra and Ser Harwin Strong, depending on who you ask. Jace is currently the heir to the Iron Throne after his mother, and a strong kid despite only being somewhere around 7 years old.
In 117 AC, Rhaenyra gave birth to her third son, whom Laenor named Joffrey, in honor of Ser Joffrey Lonmouth.
Jacaerys, Rhaenyra's eldest son, and his two younger brothers have spent their short lives surrounded by whispers that their real father was Ser Harwin Strong.
Daemon and Rhaenyra share two children together: Aegon III and Viserys II.
Aegon II's quick but viscerally brutal slaying of Queen Rhaenyra doesn't seem to do her justice.
On his deathbed, Viserys dreamt of one of his heirs wearing the Conqueror's Crown—the crown that once belonged to Aegon. By naming her first born son Aegon, it shows that Rhaenyra intends to fight to fulfill the prophecy in the same way that her father did.
Eventually, Rhaenyra is killed, as is Aegon II, meaning both major claimants to the Iron Throne are dead. As Aegon had no heirs, the Iron Throne fell to Aegon III, Rhaenyra's firstborn son with Daemon Targaryen.
In 120 AC, Rhaenyra bore a son she named Aegon, intended to be a slight towards Prince Aegon, much to the wroth of Queen Alicent. In 122 AC, in accordance with the ancient tradition of House Targaryen, Prince Aegon the Elder married his sister, Princess Helaena Targaryen, in King's Landing.
Her husband, King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine), was forced to make the choice between saving his wife or his son or lose them both. Viserys chooses his son — the potential future heir to his throne — over his beloved wife.
Aegon II Targaryen, also known as Aegon the Elder, was the sixth Targaryen king to sit the Iron Throne, succeeding his father, Viserys I Targaryen, as Lord of the Seven Kingdoms.
While they struggled to get along in the early years after Aemma's death, Viserys seemed determined to show Rhaenyra his support in every situation. His love for his daughter was more powerful than the love he had for any of his other children, and he seemed to truly want little more than to see her happy.
