If you have sensitive skin, I wholeheartedly recommend the Venus Pubic Hair and Skin Razor (and the rest of its products, too). It doesn't grate your skin – there is a patented irritation defense bar that keeps the razor from scratching and irritating your pubic area, while also kissing hair goodbye.
Invest In the Right Razor
Avoid using a razor with too many blades, because that can be too harsh on your vulva — especially if you shave daily, says Dr. Nazarian. A good rule of thumb: Use two different razors, one for your pubic area and a separate one for your legs and underarms.
You can find a razor blade that's dermatologist-tested for sensitive skin; and consider using a razor with five blades for a closer shave with less irritation*.
Use a sharp, clean razor. Hold the skin around the hair tightly with one hand. Using the other hand, slowly and carefully shave in the direction of the hair growth.
While better hygiene, a sense of cleanliness and freshness, and greater sensitivity can be convincing benefits associated with shaving pubic hair, there are equally compelling reasons not to, including ingrown hairs, skin irritation, and infections. But the bottom line is that it's really all about personal preference.
Go with the grain. Pull your skin taut and shave in the direction your pubes are growing to avoid enraging your hair follicles. Rinse and dry. Use lukewarm water to clean off any excess product or hairs.
Shaving with a clogged or unclean razor is a big no-no. Folliculitis is typically caused by bacteria. Folliculitis causes red and white pimples to grow around the hair follicle resulting in that prickly feeling after shaving. Rest assured, mild cases of folliculitis should clear on its own within a number of days.
Get A Closer Shave with a Single Blade
Ideal for those delicate areas too, such as the bikini line. Plus, sharper also means less chance of nicks and cuts, believe it or not.
How short should you trim men's pubic hair? The length you trim your pubic hair to is all about personal choice – begin using the 6mm comb on the Gillette All Purpose Styler to get an idea of what it'll look like, then adjust to 4mm or 2mm if you'd like it shorter.
If you'll only be cutting hair; not shaving it, do it while the hair is completely dry — it'll be easier to manage. If you're shaving though, soaking in a warm bath or shower for 10 to 15 minutes can reduce the irritation to your skin.
Just like choosing a trimmer, don't just use any razor and blade. It's important to choose quality razors that are sharp and preferably used only for your pubic area to avoid damaging your skin and balls. The worst thing you can do is use a dull razor.
Research has shown that men who keep their pubic hair have a lower chance of getting warts. This is because pubic hair acts as a shield to reduce skin contact between people during intercourse. Getting rid of pubic hair is different from going to the barber for a haircut.
They must be able to perform the same superior level of service on every man. For these reasons the master barber trusts in the traditional single blade and his ability to provide a consistently clean shave with less chance of nicks, cuts, burn or irritation.
Allergies or an allergic reaction. Skin irritation from sweating or wearing tight clothing. Skin irritation from personal hygiene products such as soaps, perfumes and detergents. Genital herpes.
Razor burn can lead to an itchy pubic region in many people. Cutting the hairs in this area may cause irritation, which can be worse if a person shaves too fast or uses a dull razor. Razor burn typically appears as a reddish area of skin, occurring alongside tender red bumps and itching.
Itchy pubic hair is common and is often easily treatable. Common causes include rash burn, contact dermatitis, jock itch, pubic lice, scabies, yeast infection, psoriasis, eczema, and folliculitis. See a healthcare provider if the itching is severe, painful, persistent, or worsening.
If you're not comfortable with shaving pubic hair, trimming is a great option. You can trim the hair of your private area with a sharp pair of scissors. If you are afraid of hurting yourself, you can always try an electric trimmer.
Pubic Hair Trends
According to the researchers, when asked if they removed their pubic hair, 80% of women and 39% of men removed their pubic hair near the time of the survey. Also, 3% of women and 21% of men had never removed their pubic hair.
How modern males groom. To say that it's normal for a guy to shave his pubes is an understatement. Plenty of groups have studied this exact question, and a MANSCAPED Independent Study discovered that 69% of guys regularly trim and 81.6% have at least tried it.
If you want it consistently stubble, then invest in a Body and Groin Trimmer to keep your desired length. If you're not too picky, you only need to trim every couple of weeks.
