Our study highlights the efficacy of Surah Al-Rehman as a remedy to reduce depression.
Surah Ad-Duha was revealed to the Prophet (ﷺ) to provide relief and hope. It was a way to reassure the Prophet (ﷺ) that Allah had not abandoned him. Through this Surah, we too can find relief from anxiety and sorrow.
Quran Acknowledges the Reality of Depression
Many times the Quran reminds one that there is no grief or fear if one remains steadfast and that the Hereafter is free of all those negative and overwhelming feelings and situations (Quran 43:68, 46:13).
We ponder, glorify, worship Allah and find ways to keep Him our hearts! Surah Duha restores our faith and increase our belief in the greatness and power of Allah. Read it and ponder over its meanings.
1- Surah Yusuf.
This surah carries a lot of lessons that we can learn from. We can use it to deal with and overcome our life's problems. Allah can make you live a happy life no matter how much you're struggling in your life right now. Allah can take it all away in a moment.
Dua to safeguard from anxiety and depression
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-Ḥuzni wal-'ajazi wal-kasli wal-bukhli wal-jubni wa ḍala'id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijal.
Sura (verse) 11 (Hūd) and 23 (Al-Mu'minoon) mention miracles of Noah (Nuh), "The oven (tannur) out of which the water burst and announced the flood".
There are also some practices in Islam that help Muslims enhance their mental health. These practices include (1) daily prayers, (2) fasting during the month of Ramadan, (3) helping others, and (4) daily reciting of the Holy Quran. When Muslims are praying, they are talking directly to God.
Similarly, instead of feeling victorious, Elijah felt hopeless, alone and afraid. He had low self-esteem and wanted to die. He wanted to sleep and had to be encouraged to get up and nourish himself. Elijah, a prophet, Biblical hero, and person of faith, was seriously depressed.
Dua: Allaahumma rahmataka arjoo falaa takilnee ilaa nafsee tarfata 'ayn. wa aslih lee sha'nee kullah. Laa ilaaha illaa Ant. Translation: O Allah, it is Your mercy that I hope for, so don't leave me in charge of my affairs even for the blinking of an eye.
If you are depressed because of wealth or health issues, recite Surah Ad-Duha, it is the best remedy to relieve depression. Surah Ad-Duha encourages the focus on life's purpose and the hereafter life. Surah Ad-Duha brings hope for us for the better tomorrow.
Dua for hardship and distress
"Allah is sufficient for me. There is none worthy of worship but Him. I have placed my trust in Him, and He is the lord of the Majestic Throne." Allah is with you wherever you are, Insya'Allah.
A prayer for spiritual rest in mental struggle
Lord Jesus, I thank you that my struggles with my mental health can't stop me from finding rest in you. The rest you offer sits right beside my grief and mental pain. It mingles with my sadness and fear. Rest in you is far superior to a good night's sleep.
Surah Al-Kahf for peace of mind.
It talks about faith (the people of the cave), wealth (the story of the man who had two beautiful gardens), power (the story of Dhul-Qarnayn), and knowledge (the story of Moses and khidr). From all these beautiful stories we learn how to deal with life's obstacles and tests.
Surah Ar-Rahman.
In this verse, Allah tells us how the Quran in itself is a guidance and blessing to us. It is one of the best surahs to read for anxiety. As it will ease your heart and give you peace of mind, making you feel better.
Stop overthinking. You are stressing yourself too much & instead you should trust Allah. Where is your trust in Allah? He loves you, He won't let you down."
There is one particular Ayah in particular that Prophet Muhammad salallahu alaihi wasallam spoke of, that is said to give its reader great benefits in this life and the afterlife – Ayatul Kursi (Surat Al-Baqarah 2:255), also known as the Verse of the Throne.
Surah ad-Duha was revealed to the Prophet ﷺ to relieve him of these negative feelings and to give him hope, positivity, and the assurance that Allah is with him no matter what. From it we too can find peace, hope, and a renewed faith in Allah when we go through similar states of depression, sadness, and hopelessness.
Commonly termed as the “Surah of Wealth, Surah Waqiah brings abundance and prosperity, while protecting you from poverty. Taking a few minutes out of your day to recite this ensures that you reap the unlimited rewards it brings.
As a reminder to us that the night is meant to cover and give us comfort and rest. Generally when we're depressed, we tend to get into a very bad sleep pattern by staying up at night and sleeping all day, thereby worsening our state of mind. This aayah reminds us to use the night as a comfort to ease our distress.
