We transition now from Jason Voorhees to Michael Myers, the star and main villain of the Halloween series. The first actor to portray this masked menace is Nick Castle in 1978's Halloween. The original story tells the tale of Michael Myers, who is locked away for murdering his sister when he was only six years old.
Introduction: Horror Films of the 70s and 80s (and Beyond):
Many of the more successful horror films, including Halloween (1978), Friday the 13th (1980), and A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) spawned inferior, low-budget, sickening slasher, 'schlock' or 'splatter' films in the 80s (and 90s and beyond).
Both are massive, hulking beasts. According to dimensions.com, Jason Voorhees checks in at 6'5″, and Michael Myers 6'7″.
Michael is an upcoming horror film crossover, and the sequel to Freddy vs. Jason. The Film continues the story of Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees's battle, but Michael Myers from Halloween joins the fight.
Verdict: Jason Voorhees Is Stronger Than Michael Myers
While Michael has proven time and again that he can survive nearly anything, he doesn't stand a chance against Jason. Jason's immense strength and ability to keep killing no matter the circumstances show that he can withstand a full-on assault from Michael.
Michael Myers inspired many fictional serial killers and it turns out that the protagonist of Halloween has a lot in common with Jason Voorhees, the hockey mask-wearing killer from Friday the 13th. But even though these two act in very similar ways, they have some unique qualities as well.
Michael does not speak in the films; the first time audiences ever hear his voice is in the 2007 Rob Zombie reboot. Michael speaks as a child at the beginning of the film, but while in Smith's Grove he stops talking completely.
Another weakness pointed out by viewers is Michael Myers' iconic mask, as every time he has been unmasked he stops killing, even though he had his victim in front and completely helpless. Some have even theorized that Michael's mask was made by Silver Shamrock, which explains why he's driven to kill when he wears it.
Jason has established that Jason's weakness is water, since he died by drowning (although he was shown in water in some films).
Basically, Michael killed his sister Judith because of a curse that was placed on him. A weirdo doctor thought it would be chill to cast this curse, even though it results in death and chaos over a long course of time. Michael simply serves as a killing machine to keep the cult of thorn thriving.
His bloodthirsty obsession with her no longer stems from a familial connection. It's simply a continuation of him seeing her as the right victim and then becoming consumed by his own inability to kill her.
A new version of Laurie Strode (Scout Taylor-Compton) appears in the Rob Zombie remake (2007). This film establishes from the beginning that Laurie (born Angel Myers) is Michael's baby sister, nicknamed "Boo", with whom young Michael (Daeg Faerch) shares a close bond.
The 80s saw the rise of several Halloween clones and became known as the slasher era. Tops among these copycats was 1980's Friday the 13th. Director Sean Cunningham has admitted that he was ripping off Halloween, still he created something original, a thrilling whodunit with a shocking twist ending.
Jason Voorhees (/ˈvɔːrhiːz/) is a character from the Friday the 13th series. He first appeared in Friday the 13th (1980) as the young son of camp-cook-turned-killer Mrs. Voorhees, in which he was portrayed by Ari Lehman.
The original 1978 Halloween from John Carpenter along with the initial Friday the 13th film have stood the test of time as bonafide slashers that are essential to any Halloween horror marathon.
Halloween introduced viewers to Michael Myers, who on Halloween night, in 1963, killed his older sister, Judith, when he was just six years old. Michael was then sent to Smith's Grove Sanitarium, where he became the patient of Dr. Samuel Loomis (Donald Pleasence) and never spoke again.
There's a simple explanation for what motivates Michael Myers that closely follows slasher movie logic, in which the killer is often motivated by a combination of neglect and sexual jealousy.
As revealed in Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, a group of druids belonging to Halloween's Cult of Thorn placed a curse on Michael when he was an infant. This curse causes him to be possessed by Thorn, a demonic force that requires its host to sacrifice their family on Samhain (now known as Halloween night).
Michael Myers Kill Count: 159
Michael racks up 159 kills over 12 films and will be adding more kills to the list later this year. To find out more about Michael Myers, check out our overview of the famous slasher!
Speaking with HalloweenMovies, director Dominique Othenin-Girard stated Michael cries because "Again, to humanize him, to give him a tear. With this moment, he's suggesting Michael does have a humane side.
Halloween (1978 movie)
That film found Castle's Myers killing the unfortunate Bob (John Michael Graham) by stabbing him with a knife and then tilting his masked head, as if to admire his demented handiwork.
Michael is much scarier…. his mask just gives of this wierd vibes of a true psycho…. jason on the other hand can be seen to be a bit more emotional and giving certain ways by which his victims can escape…. Who wins with prep time, Michael Myers or Jason Voorhees?
Michael Myers could not die in the earlier films because The Cult of Thorn has cursed children from his tribe, rendering them “immortal.” They also commanded him to murder every family member as a sacrifice to maintain the cult members' immortality. This supernatural power was even hinted at during the recent trilogy.
Multiple Halloween fan sites claim Myers could also, in part, be based on Stanley Stiers, who went on a killing spree in Iowa in the 1920s, even murdering his entire family on Halloween.
