As Brenner asks his "child" for forgiveness, El doesn't give that to him, staying silent and turning her head as he dies.
As the camera pans out, Dr. Brenner dies alone in the desert; El is finally free. But actor Matthew Modine says he “would love to have the opportunity to come back.”
The fourth season of Stranger Things featured the deaths of beloved (and not so beloved) characters, including Hellfire Club president and metalhead Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) and Dr. Martin Brenner (Matthew Modine). As it turns out, another character narrowly avoided a grim fate.
Physically, yes. Lucas tells his friends that Max is in a coma, and we see her wearing casts on her arms and legs. The Duffer brothers have also confirmed that at the end of Season 4, Max is alive yet "brain dead, blind, and all of her bones are broken." The big mystery is where the redhead is mentally.
Is Nancy OK? Yes! Nancy (Natalia Dyer) is fine — at least, as fine as she can be after being traumatized by Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) and almost strangled to death by his squelchy, squelchy tentacles. Instead of escaping Vecna's Mind Lair by hearing her favorite song, Nancy is actually released by Vecna himself.
Does Nancy die in Stranger Things season 4. Fear not! Nancy does not die in Stranger Things season 4 and is very much alive as the season comes to an end!
Spoilers ahead for Stranger Things season 4 volume 1.
Though Billy dies in the finale of season 3, he's still mentioned a bunch in season 4 because of how his stepsister Max (Sadie Sink) is handling his death.
While helping rescue Steve from the Upside Down, Nancy is briefly captured by Vecna, who shows her a vision of his evil plan for Hawkins and the rest of the world. During the final battle, Nancy — with backup from Steve and Robin — gets to set Vecna ablaze, but their efforts aren't fatal to the monster.
However, the Duffer Brothers confirmed that, if Steve were to die in season 4, volume 2, it wouldn't have anything to do with the demobat bites. Thankfully, he did not, as he survived his trip into the Upside Down and helped Nancy and Robin take down Vecna.
With the doorways opening up, it is but obvious that Vecna isn't dead, and is expected to return in its fifth and final season.
That said, we never saw Owens after that. Sullivan was left without transportation after Eleven telekinetically dragged the military's helicopter into the vehicles, but he survived the explosion as he was underground in the lab at the time. That means Owens survived too.
By our count, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) has been responsible for the deaths of 21 people. Twelve of those deaths happened in Season 1. Her escape from Hawkins Lab led to six guards being killed.
But it's the death in episode nine that has moved fans: Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn). Despite only being introduced in the show's fourth season, Eddie made a strong impression on viewers. Fans expressed their sadness on social media over his sacrifice for the show's fictional town of Hawkins.
Yuri Ismaylov is a major antagonist in the fourth season of Stranger Things. He is a Russian smuggler whose main concern is doing jobs for money. This later changes when his current situation is broken down to him by his allies.
So no, they don't get together in Season 4, but they still could in Season 5. Though since Nancy is technically still in a relationship with Johnathan, a potential romance between her and Steve could be messy.
Fans saw some glimpses of Billy again in her mind, but that doesn't mean Billy is back from the dead - it's just an illusion meant to torment her. While it's possible Billy's grave is empty and the character could return, it seems like the show is committed to Billy actually being dead for good.
Following Billy's death, Max distances herself from her friends and boyfriend and feels immense survivor's guilt, traumatized by her stepbrother's violent death. She consequently feels responsible for the dissolution of her family and is so entrenched in her shame that she becomes Vecna's next victim.
And while his usual modus operandi is to embody his victims' negative self-talk (another very real psychological phenomenon), this time he is telling Nancy his plans and then releasing her so she can report back to everybody—Eleven included—that the end is nigh, with the goal of discouraging and disempowering them.
The final scene of Volume 1 shows a shot of Vecna, and a close up of the 001 tattoo on his arm, confirming that Henry Creel, a.k.a. Number One, became Vecna.
After being dragged into the Upside Down and nearly being killed by a swarm of Demobats, Steve was saved by Nancy, Robin, and Eddie before they managed to escape the Upside Down where Nancy discovered Vecna's true identity as Henry Creel and One, the first child test subject of Hawkins National Laboratory.
Basically, it's a brave season for Steve, Nancy (Natalia Dyer) and Robin (Maya Hawke) as they infiltrate Vecna's lair. Thankfully, all three of them come out alive.
In episode 7, Vecna is revealed to be Henry Creel (played as a youngster by Raphael Luce), the son of Victor Creel (Robert Englund) and his wife Virginia (Tyner Rushing) shown in the 1950s flashbacks.
Next up, the viewers go on to theorise that One/Vecna is actually Eleven's dad. Yep, told you it was wild. The theory claims that Brenner wanted to create a child with stronger powers, so he waited until One was old enough to become a father.
