He talks to Johnny about having feelings for Kumiko. Johnny tells this to Daniel. Daniel talks to Chozen about Kumiko. Chozen talks about he and Kumiko when they were kids, and how Kumiko was able to forgive him after his disgrace in the village.
Daniel reassures Chozen that he's redeemed himself for the things that he did, and that Kumiko knows it too. After Daniel encourages Chozen to pursue a relationship with Kumiko, he leaves the restaurant and calls her.
Chozen fell in love with Kumiko, but he never admitted it as Chozen felt that his actions towards Kumiko were unforgiveable.
While out celebrating that Johnny and Carmen are having a baby, Johnny asks Chozen if he has a special lady, Chozen confesses that he always had feelings for Kumiko, Daniel's love interest in Karate Kid Part II.
After his defeat, he was suicidal, but Sato and Kumiko helped him to recover and find purpose. As an adult, Chozen became the Sensei for Miyagi-Do karate in Okinawa (which he inherited after Sato died), and is on friendly terms with Kumiko. He also did not marry, and does not have children.
Seeing that he had a hand on making Chozen land where he was now, Sato decided to forgive Chozen and let him redeem himself, he gave his nephew a second chance at life, which he took to heart. Sato ultimately managed to put Chozen in the right path before dying, making him a better man for the conceivable future.
With that seemingly severe slice to Chozen's arm Cobra Kai indicates that nothing is off limits and that one of these men may truly not make it out alive. This laceration is followed by another, impeding Chozen's ability to fight. Miraculously he manages to best Silver.
Following Miyagi-do's defeat to Cobra Kai at the All Valley Tournament, Daniel was shown to be visiting Mr. Miyagi's grave, saying he would need help to take down Terry Silver. The camera then panned out to reveal that Chozen was there, and the season ended with him agreeing to aid Daniel in this fight.
While Daniel and Kumiko talked about her joining him in California to pursue her dream of being a dancer, she got an opportunity to dance in Tokyo, and they broke up before LaRusso and Miyagi returned home to LA.
So when Cobra Kai villain Terry "you're playing with fire" Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) crosses paths with honorable karate master Chozen "and I am gasoline" Toguchi (Yuji Okumoto) in season 5, things are bound to get heated.
Warning: SPOILERS for Cobra Kai Season 5A surprising Cobra Kai season 5 flashback showed that Chozen Toguchi (Yuji Okomoto) grew up without honor, but he is now one of the most honorable men in Daniel LaRusso's (Ralph Macchio) life.
As Daniel's main antagonist in the 1986 film, Chozen was the nephew of Sato Toguchi (Danny Kamekona) — the rival of Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita), Daniel's mentor — and he showed no restraint when it came to attacking his enemies.
Chozen was not only a stalwart friend to Daniel, but he became sensei to Miyagi-Do's students, and he became buddies with Johnny and Barnes. Chozen is also probably the best fighter Cobra Kai has seen since Mr. Miyagi himself, and that Okinawan spirit is alive and well through Chozen.
In fact, the two trained and spared together at Miyagi-Do. During their fight, however, it was clear that Chozen was Daniel's superior. He had trained with Sato for a lot longer (and in more depth) than Daniel had trained with Mr. Miyagi.
Naturally, Chozen's martial arts skills are tested to their limits, and Cobra Kai season 5 proves that he's the best karate fighter in the show, just as Mr. Miyagi was in The Karate Kid movies.
Elisabeth Shue as Ali Mills Schwarber
Elisabeth Shue reprises her role as Ali ("with an 'i'") Mills Schwarber on season 3 of Cobra Kai. In the Karate Kid films, Ali is the love interest of both Johnny and Daniel.
Asuka mentions the hair decoration on Kumiko after her graduation ceremony and asks if it's from her “boyfriend.” Kumiko stumbles and eventually says yes revealing that she is also in love with Shuuichi, and they start going out later in the light novels.
But the lovey-dovey couple broke up on prom night, as Daniel relayed to Mr. Miyagi in The Karate Kid Part II. Daniel explained in his periwinkle tuxedo that Ali not only crashed the car Mr. Miyagi gave him but also cheated on him with a UCLA football player.
Chozen tried to earn his honor back by holding Daniel's girlfriend Kumiko (Tamlyn Tomita) hostage and challenging LaRusso in a fight to the death. But Daniel defeated Chozen and fans never learned what became of him - until Cobra Kai season 3 finally brought Chozen back.
Mike Barnes Was Better Than Chozen In The Karate Kid Trilogy
Daniel seemingly surpassed Chozen in The Karate Kid Part II, but wasn't on Barnes' level in the third movie (despite winning at the end.) In The Karate Kid Part III, Barnes could've won the All Valley Tournament, but lost because of Silver's flawed plan.
Thanks to his devotion to Miyagi-do karate, Chozen has emerged as a powerful fighter who just might be able to beat Terry Silver.
Much more than Daniel or Johnny, Chozen knows what it is like to have walked through a turbulent path and yet found himself again and been redeemed. The character can share his experiences with Tory and show her that it is never too late for a fresh start.
As for Johnny, he didn't fight Chozen, but since his skills are comparable to Daniel's, it's likely that Chozen would emerge victorious if the two were to come to blows.
In the battle, it appears that Chozen is killed when Silver slashes him across the back with a katana.
However, unlike Daniel, Chozen also learned the offensive side of Miyagi-Do, showing that he is probably the best fighter in the whole series. Along with his karate techniques, Chozen is also very skilled at using his sai weapons.
