In the series finale of Jane the Virgin, not only did Jane get married to Rafael, but she revealed that her book's ending plays into the very show that fans have been watching for five seasons.
That's when it became clear to viewers: The newly returned Michael—the man she had been happily married to—wasn't a serious option anymore. Instead, his return was simply a way for the writers to allow Jane to officially “choose” Rafael this time, not once but twice: first over Jason, then over the real Michael.
After taking the LSAT, Michael dies suddenly from an aortic dissection (his blood pressure spiked) from being shot by Sin Rostro. Jane continued to mourn his death for years moving forward but eventually needed to move on with her life and started dating Adam Alvaro and later Rafael.
Four years after his death, Rafael learns from Sin Rostro that Michael is alive and that she faked his death.
At the end of the series, Rafael Solano ends up with Petra Solano, his ex-wife. They had previously been married, but divorced due to Rafael's infidelity. However, throughout the course of the series, the two find their way back to each other and rekindle their love for one another.
Petra becomes engaged to Lachlan Moore before leaving him for Rafael Solano, a man with slightly more money, but ultimately falling in love with him. The two get married and Petra becomes pregnant, but they eventually lose the baby and Rafael becomes diagnosed with cancer.
Not long after, Petra starts cheating on Rafael with Roman Zazo.

Characters. Anna and Ellie are the twin daughters of Petra Solano and Rafael Solano, born in 2016. At age 4 in 2020, the girls are heralded as very bright and extremely well-behaved, winning awards and recognition for their prodigiousness.
She was inseminated with the last sample (that we know of) of a local hotelier, Rafael Solano, a cancer survivor. His wife, Petra, wanted to surprise Rafael with the insemination. Jane learns she is pregnant after she faints on the bus.

If you need a quick refresher: Please recall that in season three, Michael collapsed and seemingly died after finishing his LSAT exam. He had apparently suffered an aortic dissection, a heart injury sustained after being shot by drug lord and criminal mastermind Sin Rostro.

Petra and Rafael plot ways to buy back the hotel from Luisa. Finding that Rafael does not trust her, Petra ultimately ends their relationship, and Rafael goes to bed with Katherine. Petra finds that she has bigger problems than her failed relationship when it's revealed that Magda has been released from prison.
