When Jonas next sees Fiona, he suggests to her that she stop taking her morning injections, which is what numb the emotions in everyone. He later takes her to the Triangle, a spot where they and Asher enjoyed going to. There, Jonas kisses Fiona for the first time.
4) Jonas doesn't kiss Fiona in the book
But in the book, he doesn't really act on his Stirrings toward Fiona, probably because, well, he's only a Twelve.
Fiona is a classmate and love interest of Jonas, the main character in Lois Lowry's novel, The Giver.
This movie has kissing and murdering in it.
Ultimately because Jonas's isolating position makes him see the world in a new way, he is not able to continue his friendship with Fiona. He realizes she cannot feel emotions as he can, and although he loves her, she is not able to love him.
Though a kiss was filmed for the couple, it was confirmed by Paul Hoen that it hadn't made the final cut, and would not appear in the series.
Plot. Fiona struggles with work at Patsy's Pies after being promoted to assistant manager. Though she is still married to Gus, Fiona has begun a sexual relationship with Sean. When Fiona unexpectedly finds out she is pregnant (and does not know who the father is), she ultimately decides to get an abortion.
The Giver is rated PG-13 by the MPAA for a mature thematic image and some sci-fi action/violence.
Jonas wants to know if The Giver has ever lied to him; the old man answers no, he never has.
At the end of the chapter, Jonas cries. He does this because he realizes he may not be able to save Gabriel. Through his tears, Jonas comes to understand that he cares more about Gabriel than himself.
Meanwhile, Joe and actress Sophie Turner, who tied the knot in Las Vegas in May 2019 and again in June 2019 in the South of France, have two children, welcoming their second baby in 2022. In January 2022, Nick announced that he and his wife Priyanka Chopra welcomed a baby via surrogate.
Asher. Jonas's best friend. Asher is a fun-loving, hasty boy who usually speaks too fast, mixing up his words to the exasperation of his teachers and Jonas.
His personality change allows Asher to betray his friends in the movie by trying to stop Jonas from escaping the community and then later dumping Jonas into the river.
Fiona is one of Jonas' good friends. She is a very pretty girl who is sensitive, intelligent, quiet, and polite. At the Ceremony of Twelve, Fiona is assigned to be Caretaker of the Old. Jonas accompanies Fiona as they ride their bicycles to their new assignments.
But Lowry says the film itself isn't consumed by the relationship between Jonas and Fiona, except for a line in the final scene in which Jonas says, "I knew I would see Fiona again." "I've written four books now (in this series) and he never sees her again," Lowry tells The News.
There's a love story.
But, as played by 17-year-old Odeya Rush, Fiona is moved up to full-on love interest. Jonas kisses her, convinces her to stop taking her medication, and begs her to run off with him.
Were they biologically related? LL: They had the same magical capacity. No, they were not biologically related.
The Giver has mild sexual references. For example, the Elders discuss how love leads to sex, which leads to murder and death. The Elders therefore believe that emotions are negative and the word 'love' is banished. People of all ages are not allowed to touch anyone who is not a member of their direct nuclear family.
Jonas stops taking the pills just so he can experience the sensation of wanting something, not because he has hopes to start a sexual relationship with another person. He wants to feel capable of making choices, and he wants to want things—nothing will change if he does not want it to very badly.
This is my 11-year-olds favorite movie, but if your kids are more sensitive or easily scared, don't watch it. (There is a scene where a baby is killed and also a scene with war, along with a scene where a main character is almost killed) I don't think this movie deserves its PG-13 rating at all.
The main reason that The Giver is challenged is that it contains adult material that many feel is inappropriate for young readers. The violent memories, sexuality, infanticide, suicide, and euthanasia within the text are cited as valid reasons for removing it from schools and libraries.
