Contralto. The contralto voice is the lowest of the female voices and by far and away the rarest. The contralto range is roughly from the F below middle C to a high F one octave above middle C almost exactly matching that of the male countertenor.
How low can he go? Turns out, ludicrously, earth-shatteringly low… Since 2012, Tim Storms has held the world record for the lowest ever vocal note – that's a deliciously gravelly G -7 (0.189 Hz), which is eight octaves below the lowest G on the piano.
The seventh octave is the range of notes between C7 and C8. It is easier for very high coloratura sopranos to sing in this octave, but some people who are capable of singing in the bass range (like singers Adam Lopez, Virgo Degan, Nicola Sedda or Dimash Kudaibergen) can do it.
The highest note on record is a G10 sung by Georgia Brown, a Brazilian dance/electric singer. You can hear it here (it's really something!). While a G10 is extreme, many of the coloraturas I know sing up to the 7th octave.
Other big names with a 5-octave range are Shanice, Prince and Kyo, plus jazz singer Rachelle Ferrell.
Check these ladies out. Contraltos are arguably the rarest of female voice types and they possess a tone so dark they often give the men a run for their money. If mezzos are like clarinets, contraltos are more like bass clarinets.
1) BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY by Queen
But let's face it, Bohemian Rhapsody is just impossible to sing by yourself because of those multiple voices that are essential to the song.
What's Ariana Grande's Voice Type? Ariana is what we like to call a lyric coloratura soprano. Coloratura means she has a lot of agility with her vocal runs and trills, while lyric means that her high notes have a lot of power in them.
According to popular noise level charts Zaharieva's achievement of 113.8 dB roughly amounts to the same loudness you would hear at a rock concert, a symphony orchestra or an emergency vehicle siren.
The 1024th note
Anthony Philip Heinrich's Toccata Grande Cromatica is an absolute joy to sight-read – slightly hungover – on a Sunday morning. The piece contains the shortest note value ever used in a published work – a 1024th note.
For the record, Kenny G held his note for 45 minutes and 47 seconds, but Femi Kuti took it all the way to 46 minutes and 38 seconds. MARTIN: So congratulations to Kuti, right?
Rolling in the Deep by Adele
This is often a popular song for auditions and shows. But because Adele's got such a powerful voice and is able to use her falsetto voice when singing higher notes, it makes it very difficult to replicate. The intervals in the verses pose a problem.
Tim Storms boasts a vocal range of 10 octaves and his lowest note is so deep it can only be heard by elephants.
One study on Freddie's vocal range even confirmed that he was able to vary from about 92.2 Hz to 784 Hz, meaning he was reliably able to hit notes from the booming low of F#2 to the high pitch G5 – that covers a full three octaves!
Voice characteristics
Elvis Presley was a baritone whose voice had an extraordinary compass — the so-called register — and a very wide range of vocal colour. It covered two octaves and a third, from the baritone low-G to the tenor high B, with an upward extension in falsetto to at least a D flat.
Top-selling artists worldwide as of 2022. Perhaps unsurprisingly, British rock band The Beatles are top of the list for best-selling artists worldwide, with 183 million units certified sales. Second is Garth Brooks with over 157 million units sales, followed by Elvis Presley with 139 million units.
Justin Bieber takes the top spot, with millions of followers across socials and billions of plays on streaming services. The most popular female artist currently goes to Taylor Swift, while BTS are unsurprisingly the most popular band. Any surprises here amongst the most popular artists in 2022?
