Buffy's main romantic relationships were with Angel and Spike.
A native of Huxley, Iowa, Riley is Buffy Summers' boyfriend for parts of seasons four and five. He is first introduced as Professor Walsh's TA in a psych class Buffy and Willow are in.

He treated her with respect and chivalry. Lesser men would be intimidated to date a Slayer, but Riley was captivated by Buffy's calling, loving her all the more.
It actually speaks to Abrams's point about Buffy -- that Angel was the perfect love interest for Buffy when she was growing into her own, while Spike was an ideal man to be with her when she'd fully embraced her power and potential.
Angel isn't just Buffy's first love, he's treated as her soulmate. However, Buffy isn't the first blonde to catch Angel's eye. The first relationship that Angel had was with his vampire sire, and eventual mother of his child, Darla. Darla and Angel reigned destruction for centuries until Angel was saddled with a soul.
Whether their relationship is a lasting one is questionable but certainly he was the best of the three boyfriends Buffy had. But Buffy only had three boyfriends, you say. Who could be number one? It doesn't make sense!
By the end of the issue, Buffy comes to the conclusion that she cannot have a baby.
Buffy retains her Slayer powers, but her clinical death is enough for the next Slayer to be called. For the next year there are two Slayers in the world: first Kendra, who was called on Buffy's death, and then Faith, who was called when Kendra was killed by Drusilla.
Sadly, at the end of the series, Buffy did not end up with Angel, or anyone at all. Despite the show ending, a comic book series produced by Buffy creator Joss Whedon has continued. In the final issue of Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Reckoning, Buffy also did not end with Buffy romantically involved with anyone.
In the series finale, Buffy tells spike she loves him. He replies that she doesn't, but thanks her for saying it, hinting that she only said it to comfort him because he was dying.
In a seemingly impossible event, vampires Angel and Darla had a child, the end result being Connor, a human with superhuman abilities. Connor is introduced in the episode "Lullaby," when Darla sacrifices herself to give birth to him, by staking herself in the heart.
After three seasons on Buffy, Cordelia left the series to move over to star in Angel, a spin-off series focusing on Buffy's vampire ex-lover Angel (David Boreanaz). The first season of Angel sees Cordelia move to Los Angeles, in the hopes of escaping her new-found poverty by becoming an actress.
For years, there have been whispers of Cordelia being written off of Angel because Whedon was upset with Carpenter's pregnancy. Carpenter confirmed as much in her statement, admitting that Whedon “asked me if I was 'going to keep it' and manipulatively weaponized my womanhood and faith against me.
She is powerfully drawn to Angel, and later powerfully drawn to Spike. Riley is a bit of a 'make-do' in between. But her love for Angel is destructive, and her desire for Spike even more so. Throughout the series, Buffy, at least sometimes, just wants to be a normal girl, but she can't be.
So, Spoiler Alert. Back in Issue 6, Buffy decides to get an abortion, believing she got pregnant at a party where she was drunk beyond drunk. At the end of the issue, she elicits Spike's help in securing an abortion.
Hannigan married her Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel co-star Alexis Denisof at Two Bunch Palms Resort in Desert Hot Springs, California, on October 11, 2003. The couple live in Encino, Los Angeles with daughters Satyana Marie, born in March 2009, and Keeva Jane, born in May 2012.
Season nine continues, after issue five's cliffhanger revelation that the Slayer was pregnant, with Buffy deciding what to do about the unwanted pregnancy – the result of a drunken night at a party. Eventually she decides to have an abortion.
However, Angel becomes more and more aware of their limitations as a couple and breaks up with her in the hopes that she will be happier without him, leaving Sunnydale altogether after attending Buffy's prom and helping her in the battle against Mayor Wilkins (Harry Groener).
Angel told Buffy this at the last minute. He confessed he loved her completely, but they couldn't be together when it cost her life and the people they still needed to help against the evil forces. Angel and Buffy shared one last desperate kiss before the day was ultimately turned back and he was once again a vampire.
With the power of his soul as well as a powerful amulet that was given to him by Buffy before the final battle, Spike sacrifices himself to defeat the last of the First's demon army, the Turok-Han. The amulet and Spike burst into giant rays of sunlight and of course, turn any vampires in the way into dust.
Under the Slayer Organization, she acted partying publicly in Rome and dating the Immortal, an old rival of Angel and Spike. The idea of having a decoy under these circumstances was devised by Andrew Wells.
Angel and Buffy split only because of the curse on Angel, that a moment of perfect happiness would cause him to lose his soul.
So how did it all go down? While speaking to the New York Times, Whedon was quick to point out that Buffy isn't actually gay. "We're not going to make her gay, nor are we going to take the next 50 issues explaining that she's not," he said. "She's young and experimenting, and did I mention open-minded?
