To be eligible for the Carer Allowance: You must provide daily care, for a person with a disability or chronic illness, mental illness, or who is frail aged. You do not have to live with the person you care for. Both you and the person you care for must be Australian residents, currently living in Australia.
There's no assets test for Carer Allowance but there's an income test. To get this payment your and your partner's combined adjusted taxable income must be less than $250,000 per financial year. This amount is before tax. There's no income test for the person you care for.
Carer Payment (CP) is made to someone providing constant care at under award wages to a person with a sufficiently severe disability in their home. The carer could be a family member or a friend, and they may or may not normally be resident in the home of the person with disability.
Carer Payment – if you have caring responsibilities that prevent you from undertaking substantial paid employment. Carer Allowance – if you provide additional care and attention at home to a person with a disability or a severe medical condition.
The Work Bonus income bank is useful for pensioners who wish to work, particularly those who undertake intermittent or occasional work. Note: from 1 December 2022 to 31 December 2023, a one-off, temporary credit of $4,000 applies to Work Bonus income bank balances.
Carers Payment
The current maximum rate for a single person is $967.50 per fortnight, or $729.30 for a member of a couple. Constant care is defined as daily care which is the equivalent of a normal working day. The Treating Health Professional and carer are generally required to state this in the application.
You may get a Carer Allowance for each person you care for providing they meet the disability requirements and you meet the daily care requirements.

Carer Allowance is $144.80 each fortnight. Your work income won't affect how much Carer Allowance you get if you and your partner earn less than $250,000 a year. This is a set rate. This payment isn't part of your taxable income.
How long will my claim take to process? If you provide all the necessary information when you lodge the claim, you should receive a response from Centrelink within 12 weeks of lodging.
Carer Payment recipients can engage in employment or study for up to 25 hours per week (including travel time) and remain eligible for payment. A small number of Carer Payment recipients are aged under 16 (17 in March 2021).
You can work and get Carer's Allowance, as long as you spend at least 35 hours in your caring role. You can get support for you or the person you care for from your employer, local councils and other organisations.
Carer's Allowance does not depend on national insurance contributions and is not means-tested – in other words, it is not based on your personal income or savings – but earnings may affect your entitlement. Carer's Allowance usually counts in full as income when calculating your entitlement for means-tested benefits.
An eligible carer is a person who has at least shared care of the child (CSA Act section 7B). A person has shared care of a child if they have a care percentage of at least 35% for that child. See 2.2. 1 for information on how care percentages are determined and used in child support assessments.
About 53,000 care workers will receive a £1,000 bonus from April, the Welsh government has announced. The payment will be made to registered care home and home care workers alongside the introduction of the real living wage. One care home manager said it was not enough to cope with rises in the cost of living.
You don't need to apply for Carer Supplement. If you're eligible, we'll pay it straight into your bank account. Carer Supplement is an annual payment of $600 for each eligible payment you get.
Back Payments
Does Centrelink back pay the carer payment? Carer Allowance claimants will no longer be able to have their payment backdated up to 12 weeks prior to contacting Centrelink about the payment.
If you think you won't be eligible to claim Carer's Allowance because you have some savings, don't worry. Your savings and your National Insurance record won't make a difference to your claim.
Supported care allowance
A fortnightly payment paid to eligible relative and kinship carers for children in their care. The DCJ Carer allowance factsheet indicates the allowance rates per fortnight. The care allowance is provided by the NSW Government to help address the costs of caring for a child.

If you're getting an eligible payment you'll get Carer Supplement between 5 July and 1 August 2023. To get Carer Supplement, you need to get an eligible payment for a period that includes 1 July. The Government has provided two separate $750 payments to social security, veteran and other income support recipients and eligible concession card holders. Around half of those that benefit are pensioners. These payments will support households to manage the economic impact of the Coronavirus.
