King Agnarr of Arendelle tells his daughters Elsa and Anna that their grandfather, King Runeard, forged a treaty with the neighboring tribe of Northuldra by building a dam in the Enchanted Forest (their homeland).
The dam was in fact part of a ruse to weaken the Enchanted Forest and the Northuldra. The meeting after the dam's construction saw the Runeard initiate a battle with the Northuldra, during which, while wrestling with a Northuldran, he fell off a cliff to his death.
In truth, however, he was a ruthless, paranoid tyrant who believed magic to be a threat to his kingship. In his attempt to eliminate the Northuldra, Runeard sparked a decades-long catastrophe that was then left to his granddaughters, Anna and Elsa, to rectify.
Both characters have two daughters (Agnarr is the father to Elsa and Anna, while Big Bob is the father to Olga and Helga). In Frozen II, Agnarr is voiced by Alfred Molina, while Iduna is voiced by Evan Rachel Wood.
Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky are still going strong after over a decade of marriage.
Frozen's Elsa and Anna are Rapunzel's cousins
Considering they don't live in Arendelle, as Tangled is set in Germany, some people think they must be on the VIP invite list. There are also a few family similarities - both Rapunzel and Elsa are blonde and both have powers that look pretty but are kind of weird.
Spoilers for "Once Upon A Time" past this point.
And after Anna (Elizabeth Lail) visited the rock trolls (yep, those of "Fixer-Upper" fame), that particularl family lineage was confirmed: The Snow Queen is the sister of Elsa and Anna's mother, Gerda.
She and Agnarr were friends throughout their childhood, and eventually married and were crowned the King and Queen of Arendelle. Iduna gave birth to two daughters three years apart: Elsa and Anna, respectively.
While the voice was calling Elsa to reveal her past to her, it was ultimately revealed that Queen Iduna (Evan Rachel Wood) - Elsa's mother - had a lot to explain as well. This, coupled with the reveal that the call was Iduna all along, means Elsa was hearing the voice of her long-lost mother.
History. Olaf was originally created by Elsa when she was 7 in 1826. But 14 years later, he was brought to life and declared Elsa's official adopted son.
Anna and Elsa's parents perished in a shipwreck early in the film's first act. King Agnarr and Queen Iduna didn't get to see their daughters grow up.
Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) is John and Elsa's brother in 1923, and the character who is currently hunting lions abroad. Spencer was apparently born sometime after James and Margaret settled in Montana and was not featured as a baby back in 1883.
As it turns out, Queen Iduna and King Agnarr did die, but it wasn't because they were journeying south. Actually, the two sovereigns were headed north, in order to cross the Dark Sea and reach an enchanted frozen glacier.
In the Disney film adaptation, Anna is depicted as the princess of Arendelle, a fictional Scandinavian kingdom, and the younger sister of Elsa (Idina Menzel), who is the heiress to the throne and possesses the elemental ability to create and control ice and snow.
She had kept it a secret, likely fearing how the Arendellians would react due to the conflict between their groups. This also explains why Iduna heeded Grand Pabbie's warning in the first film and decided to keep Elsa sheltered from the people of Arendelle in order to avoid more fear and tension.
Tarzan isn't Anna and Elsa's brother. "Tarzan" codirector Chris Buck shut down theory started years ago at a 20th anniversary panel for the film at D23 Expo, which Insider attended. "Tarzan's parents are not Anna and Elsa's parents," said Buck Sunday night at the Anaheim Convention Center.
Elysium was first introduced as the eldest daughter of Elsa and Jack Frost, The Snow Queen and Guardian of Winter. Elysium was originally born and raised in Arendelle, along with her parents, her aunts and uncles, and her younger sister.
While they're in there, Anna and Elsa also discover another twist: They're half-Northuldran.
Anna and Elsa were not originally sisters in Frozen. Instead, Anna was a peasant that asked the evil Snow Queen (Elsa) to freeze her broken heart.
According to Jennifer Lee, Anna is 18 years old in the film, while both Elsa and Kristoff are 21 years old and Hans is 23 years old.
When Anna is struck in the heart by Elsa, a curse overcomes her body, one that will freeze her to solid ice. The first thing that happens is that the streak becomes bigger, and eventually, Anna's hair turns completely white.
Loosely based on Dame Gothel in the German fairy tale "Rapunzel", Mother Gothel is a vain old woman who hoards the strong healing powers of a magical gold flower to live for many, many years and remain perpetually young and beautiful.
Frozen explicitly shows the audience that Iduna and Agnarr's ship has sunk, killing both of the young princesses' parents. It's later revealed in Frozen 2 that the king and queen were traveling to Ahtohallan, a magical glacier in the north, and Frozen's sequel again confirms that Anna and Elsa's parents died at sea.
Eagle-eyed viewers of Frozen may have noticed a split-second cameo in the film by Rapunzel and Flynn Rider from Tangled (above).
