It is known that Penny has a daughter, Amelia, and that she is single, implying a messy divorce with her ex-husband. It is also mentioned that Amelia's father is now living in Hawaii with a new wife. Besides that and her mention in the original
She is never actually seen on screen. In one scene, Maverick's past exploits are said to include "a history of high-speed passes over five air-control towers and one admiral's daughter," and Maverick's BFF Goose mutters Penny's name under his breath — making her the "admiral's daughter" in question.
Lyliana Wray as Amelia Benjamin
Amelia Benjamin is Penny's daughter. She loves her mother and has a good rapport with Maverick. With the stranger nature of Penny and Maverick's relationship, Amelia simply wants what's best for her mother.
Penny is the daughter of a former admiral and she is actually mentioned in Top Gun by Commander Tom "Stinger" Jordan, who is Nick "Goose" Bradshaw (Anthony Edwards) and Bill "Cougar" Cortell's (John Stockwell) commanding officer.
Penny Benjamin is introduced in Top Gun: Maverick as the owner and bartender at the bar popular with Top Gun and other military personnel. It is clear that she and Maverick have known each other for a long time. She is also a single mom to a teenage daughter, Amelia (Lyliana Wray).
Penny owns a bar in proximity to the TOPGUN detachment's location and is a single mother to a daughter named Amelia Benjamin; Penny is presumably divorced, with Amelia mentioning that her father now lives in Hawaii with a different wife.
Penny Benjamin used to be Maverick's girlfriend, long before Maverick fell in love with Top Gun instructor Charlotte "Charlie" Blackwood (portrayed by Kelly McGillis in the original Top Gun movie).
This is something Maverick confessed to Penny but not to Rooster. Of course, the spirit of Goose hangs over Maverick and Rooster in Top Gun: Maverick. In moments of uncertainty, they both say, "Talk to me Goose/dad" and evoke the dearly departed, mustachioed pilot.
Penny is Maverick's on-again, off-again love in Top Gun: Maverick. While in the first film he was romantically involved with Charlie, a civilian liaison at the Top Gun Fighter School, he's since moved on decades later. Now, he's linked to Penny, a divorced single mom who owns a bar near the Top Gun school.
Just when Hangman thinks that the day can't get any worse, he finds out that his father died. His father, Admiral Tom "Iceman" Kazansky. And he doesn't take it well. Luckily, Sarah Kazansky and Maverick are there to help.
Duke Mitchell was a U.S. naval aviator who was killed-in-action during the Vietnam War. He is the father of Pete "Maverick" Mitchell.
Top Gun: Maverick didn't bring back Charlie Blackwood (Kelly McGillis), Pete's romantic partner in Top Gun, and instead introduced the character of Penny. Though surprising, the change was ultimately better for the film.
However, Charlie actress Kelly McGillis believes that there's a different explanation for not being called back for Top Gun: Maverick: her age and looks. "I'm old, and I'm fat, and I look age-appropriate for what my age is, and that is not what that whole scene is about," she said in a 2019 interview.
Penny's mother Susan, who Penny has occasionally spoken with on the phone in prior episodes (usually about other family members), first appears in the tenth-season premiere "The Conjugal Conjecture", portrayed by Katey Sagal (who previously played Cuoco's mother in the sitcom 8 Simple Rules).
In The Change Constant, after Penny took Sheldon out drinking at the Cheesecake Factory, she returned to Leonard and had spontaneous sex with him without any protection which resulted in her pregnancy. In the series finale, Penny finds out that she is expecting a baby.
There's no suggestion that it even was a decision for her: In the hour-long, two-part finale, Penny learns about her pregnancy in the commercial break between one half-hour and the next. It was an accident, she explains to the other characters. But she's happy, she tells them!
Hondo wasn't in the original Top Gun film making it more curious how he first came across Mitchell.
Top Gun Top Gun
The reason behind Maverick's reckless flying is because of the death of his father, Duke Mitchell, on November 5, 1965, when his plane was shot down in a dogfight during the Vietnam War.
Hondo is an ally of CAPT Pete "Maverick" Mitchell. He worked alongside Maverick during the Darkstar scramjet project and afterwards was able to follow Maverick to TOPGUN. While there, Hondo helped Maverick train an elite group of naval aviators for the special mission.
The night before the mission, Maverick visits Penny in his ceremonial white uniform, presumably to say goodbye in case he doesn't make it back.
Just as sparks appear on the verge of rekindling, the two agree to keep things platonic. Penny then celebrates their arrangement by ringing a bell to let everybody in the place know Maverick is buying the entire bar a round …
Toward the finale, there is an intense sequence when several S-words are used and there is one utterance of the F-word. This moment is probably where "Top Gun: Maverick" actually earned its PG-13 rating.

McGillis first revealed in 2019 that she was not asked to star in the “Top Gun” sequel, saying at the time, “I'm old, and I'm fat, and I look age-appropriate for what my age is. And that is not what that whole scene is about.
Besides, she was 27 and he was 24 and the difference was palpable.
