Trivia. Mother Gothel's original name was Madame Gothel. She is one of the few Disney Villains in the Disney revival era to die along with Dr. Facilier, Turbo, Arthur and King Runeard.
Given her biological parents are King Fredrick & Queen Arianna, you can only assume they announced her birth/name to the entire kingdom.
When Mother Gothel comes across the Snuggly Duckling tavern, however, she overhears Rapunzel singing how happy she is now that she has left the tower. She spies Rapunzel and Flynn escaping through a hidden tunnel when the royal guards arrive and flirts with a Pub Thug before threatening him to find out where it leads.
Flynn returns Rapunzel to the palace, where she is finally reunited with her parents. At the end of the film, Flynn accepts his birth name, Eugene Fitzherbert, and reveals that he has proposed to Rapunzel.
Rapunzel was eventually freed from Gothel by her lover Eugene Fitzherbert as Pascal and threw Gothel out of the tower and destroyed Rapunzels powers that kept Gothel alive. It is unknown of the fall from the tower killed her or that she turned to dust because of Rapunzels hair being cut off first.
Frozen's Elsa and Anna are Rapunzel's cousins
There are also a few family similarities - both Rapunzel and Elsa are blonde and both have powers that look pretty but are kind of weird.
In the past, Rapunzel had two daughters, Anastasia and Drizella, and made a deal with Mother Gothel to be locked in a tower in exchange for the safety of her family. Six years later, Rapunzel frees herself and when she returns to her family, she discovers she has gained a stepdaughter named Ella.

While Gothel's age is never explicitly stated, it is hinted in the series that she is at least 1,000 years old, as she is depicted as a pupil of Lord Demanitus, who lived 1,000 years prior to the events of the series.
Turning back to Rapunzel Tremaine's role as Cinderella's stepmother, she has similar motivations to her fairytale counterpart, but with far more impressive results. In the original stories, Cinderella's stepmother tries to keep Cinderella from going to the ball altogether, a task she ultimately fails at.
In Rapunzel's Return, Zhan Tiri showed her forgotten past. It was revealed that she is Mother Gothel's biological daughter. Rapunzel said that it made them sisters, which angered Cassandra.
The Captain gets more development in Tangled: The Series, where he is revealed to have an adopted daughter named Cassandra, a handmaiden who wishes to be a guard.
Rapunzel and Cassandra, however, are not sisters. They are not related. Gothel may be Cassandra's mother, but NOT Rapunzel's. She did not adopt Raps, she kidnapped her, while she did to Cass what Pink Diamond did to Spinel: she abandoned her.
Rapunzel is one of the heroines, the wife of Eugene Fitzherbert and mother of Ruby and Zellie.
Holly O'Hair (voiced by Colleen Foy) – The daughter of Rapunzel and the twin sister of Poppy O'Hair. She has long strawberry-blonde hair, that can act as a strong rope, even when it is cut. Her doll has a metallic outfit, high heels, and a crown made of holly flowers.
Tangled, however, was untouched by the sequel treatment and was left alone despite the film being viewed as a studio accomplishment. Here's why Tangled 2 never was made by the Walt Disney Animation Studios.
In the Disney film adaptation, Anna is depicted as the princess of Arendelle, a fictional Scandinavian kingdom, and the younger sister of Elsa (Idina Menzel), who is the heiress to the throne and possesses the elemental ability to create and control ice and snow.
Princess Ingrid of Arendelle, also known as Ingrid the Snow Queen, is the main antagonist of the first half of Season 4 of ABC's TV series Once Upon a Time. She is the maternal aunt of Queen Elsa and Princess Anna.
Speaking to MTV US, Frozen director confirmed that the sibling theory is true. The idea is that, instead of Anna and Elsa's parents dying in a shipwreck as 'Frozen 'would have you believe, they actually survived and washed up in a jungle - where they gave birth to baby Tarzan and lived in a tree.
Tangled in the Narcissist's Tower
Gothel is a once-beautiful but now aging narcissist who restores her youth and beauty as long as she is exposed to Rapunzel's healing long hair. Gothel is the archetype of the worst in deceptive, abusive, and even violent narcissism.
The whole point of Eugene cutting Rapunzel's hair at the end of Tangled was to end Mother Gothel's treachery we saw it couldn't grow back. Well when Rapunzel and her handmaid, Cassandra, discover some mystical rocks with magical properties during a secret adventure her hair transforms once again.
The moment that Flynn reached up and cut Rapunzel's hair to sabotage Tangled's villain was one of the most impactful of the movie. It demonstrated that he valued her freedom over his life, which perfectly contrasts Mother Gothel's selfishness.
