Shanks can be considered Luffy's mentor as he is why he (Luffy) decided to become a pirate. Shanks is one of the more likely characters to become the Pirate King.
One Piece Finally Confirms Luffy is Destined to be the Pirate King. Since Gol D. Roger's death, pirates have been fighting to replace him as the Pirate King. The World Government now has its own idea on who it will be.
The Pirate King (海賊王 Kaizoku-Ō, also called King of the Pirates in the English versions) is a title applied to the strongest pirate alive. Its latest—perhaps only—universally-acknowledged holder was Gol D. Roger, who inextricably linked it with the mythical treasure known as One Piece.
Updated December 19, 2021 by Rei Penber: The Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, is quite easily one of the strongest pirates in the story, and other than Whitebeard, no one can truly be considered an equal to him. Yet with time, more characters who wield tremendous strength themselves have been introduced in the story.
Another person known to rival Roger was Rocks D. Xebec. who was considered to be his first and most formidable rival, even more so than his former subordinate Whitebeard would come to be as it took the combined efforts of both Roger and Garp to finally defeat Rocks.
It is evident that the only person capable of surpassing Roger is Luffy. Even though Luffy still has a lot to achieve, he is the only person who can transform the entire world.
In fact, the last person convicted and executed for piracy on American soil was Albert Hicks, also known as Pirate Hicks, all the way back in 1860. Albert W. Hicks was born around 1820 in Rhode Island to a farmer and his wife.
O'Malley then ruled from two castles—on Clare Island and Clew Bay—and the sea. That's why many called her a “pirate queen.” Grace O'Malley largely fought with English ships, as a feud between England and Ireland was well underway.
Shanks never intended to be the Pirate King nor does he want that title right now, even though his words might suggest otherwise. This is because Roger told him that he was too early, as was Shanks.
Including the Yonko, Luffy is already the closest man to the One Piece, having two out of the four Road Poneglyphs already. In comparison, both Big Mom and Kaido have one Road Poneglyph each, which just goes to show that Luffy is already closer to the greatest treasure than they are.
It will be Boa Hancock. It is kind of natural inclination for fans of all manga and anime to pair protagonist with main female lead and it is also logical; there are hundreds and thousands of clues available to support that cause.
Edward Low. Edward Low started his piratical career in 1721 in the Caribbean. Over the next few years, Low blazed a path of destruction, becoming, according to one contemporary account, “the most noted pirate in America” – and certainly the most vicious. He seemed to relish torturing and killing his victims.
The oldest active pirate during the Golden Age of piracy was Captain William Kidd (born c. 1645, d. 23 May 1701), who plied his trade until the age of 54; owing to the many occupational hazards, the majority of pirates only lived into their mid-30s.
The period ended when the Royal Navy, the British East India Company, and colonial governors took a much more active and aggressive stance against piracy, resulting in the capture and public hanging of hundreds of pirates from London to the Carolinas.
The highest-earning pirate ever was Samuel “Black Sam” Bellamy, an Englishman who made his bones patrolling the New England coast in the 18th century. By our calculations, “Black Sam” plundered an estimated $120 million over the course of his career.
Currently, however, Shanks is likely stronger than Luffy, simply due to the fact that the plot demands that of him. Luffy has not surpassed Shanks just yet, otherwise, their future fight would hold no significant value.
The fight is, undoubtedly, the most difficult one that Luffy has fought so far. Kaido managed to defeat Luffy three times. For the first time, Luffy faced defeat against him Kuri and was thrown in prison. There, he learned Internal Destruction Ryuo and took Kaido on during the Onigashima Raid.
In the Post-War arc, one of the Five Elders stated that "D." means danger. After the timeskip, Law mentioned the Will of D. once more when Doflamingo asked him why he had so much faith in Luffy.
One Piece Confirms Shanks is a Celestial Dragon
This, together with a line from the movie in which the Five Elders say that Shanks belongs to the "Figarland Family", seems to confirm that Shanks is, in fact, a descendant of the Celestial Dragons, the all-powerful families who hold absolute authority over the world.
