Frodo (Played by Elijah Wood)
Frodo would win if there were a poll for the most popular character in Lord of the Rings. He is the ring-bearer and the story's protagonist, a young hobbit chosen by Gandalf, the wizard, to return the ring to Mordor.
The only other being able to resist the Ring the way Sam does is Tom Bombadill, an immortal manifestation of Middle Earth. It is no wonder that J.R.R. Tolkien himself considered Samwise Gamgee to be the 'chief hero' of The Lord of the Rings.
Unless you are not well-versed in your pop culture, you know Sauron is the main villain in JRR Tolkien's 'The Lord of the Rings' and Peter Jackson's trilogy in the book. Sauron, briefly, appears in 'The Hobbit' trilogy as well. Sauron is one of the most well-known villains in pop culture.
God is the most powerful entity in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings universe. The Elvish name for him is actually Eru Ilúvatar, meaning “the one, father of all.” So the question becomes: Who is the second-most powerful being? Originally, it was Melkor, “he who arises in might,” the most powerful of the Ainur (or angels).
Arwen is described as the “most beautiful of the last generation of High Elves in Middle-earth,” and can summon powerful water spirits. She goes out of her way to always help those in need as well. One of the more important things she does is unite Elf and Man in peace again, like Beren and Lúthien before her.
Saruman The White
Saruman is a complex wizard who could be considered one of the weakest characters since he gave up serving the side of good, and as Aragorn said, ceased to be "as great as his fame made him."
Sauron: The Big Boss At The End Of The Game
Do you realize that The Lord of the Rings gets its title, not from its protagonist, but from its main villain? From his dominance in the Second Age, all the way to the terror that he wielded during the trilogy, Sauron was peerless in his streak of evil.
Tolkien called Samwise Gamgee "the chief hero" of The Lord of the Rings, going so far as to refer to the modest Hobbit as "far superior to" himself. Sam's grace, kindness, and undeniable heroism are ultimately responsible for the elimination of Sauron's presence from Middle-earth.
Morgoth Was Originally More Powerful Than Sauron
In the depths of time, Eru Ilúvatar created Arda and the Valar. He made the Valar to help create and order the world, but the most powerful Valar, Melkor, turned out to be nothing but problems.

And for the past six decades, Frodo has been usually seen as the hero of the tale; but Samwise Gamgee is the real badass hobbit. When things get real, Sam's the dude you want by your side. Everyone needs a friend like Sam! He's loyal, brave and is there for Frodo no matter what.
Uruk-Hai. Lurtz was the first and one of the strongest orcs known as the Uruk-Hai that were created by Saruman the White. He led a party of Uruk-Hai to Amon Hen, where they intercepted the Fellowship of the Ring and tried to capture Frodo.
Ents are arguably the strongest race in terms of physical power. They are said to be able to bend steel and stone as if it is paper, and their attack on Isengard in The Two Towers shows them to be an unstoppable force.
A powerful and bruising fighter, Dwalin has a natural tendency to distrust anyone who is not a Dwarf and is particularly suspicious of Elves. Proud, brave and one of the tallest of the Dwarves, Dwalin will bow to none but those who have earned his respect.
Galadriel. One of the elves who lived in Middle Earth the longest was The Lady of Lothlorien, who arrived in the First Age and left in the Fourth. Galadriel's enigmatic abilities were tremendous, having learned magic from Valar and Maiar. All Middle Earth's races feared her, including men, dwarves, and Sauron's army.
Tolkien describes Galadriel as "the mightiest and fairest of all the Elves that remained in Middle-earth" (after the death of Gil-galad) and the "greatest of elven women".
Legolas was the most renowned archer throughout the Third Age. Earlier in his journey with the Fellowship of the Ring, he used a bow from Mirkwood, and it was later replaced by the bow of the Galadhrim Lady Galadriel gave him.
Round 1: Aragorn wins. He's a great swordsman, and would win sword to sword. If legolas tries to use a bow at 20 ft (which Aragorn can cover in a couple of seconds), he'll only get one shot before Aragorn's in close and killing him.
Most of the time that Gandalf knows Saurman he is known as Saruman the White. He was originally the chief of the wizards as well as the White Council that was formed to fight against Sauron. He was more powerful than Gandalf at these stages, but his study of dark magic turned him to support Sauron.
Galadriel has very strong magical powers, and she is said to be the greatest of the Ñoldor after Fëanor. The majority of her powers come from her Ring of Power, Nenya, the Ring of Water.
After this time, Sauron was known as the Dark Lord of Mordor. For two and a half thousand years, Sauron ruled Mordor uninterruptedly. It was from Mordor that he made war against the Elves of Eregion and came to dominate most of Eriador in a period known as the Dark Years.
The Stranger is Gandalf! Interestingly, the line about following your nose does not appear in Tolkien's books — although Gandalf does guide the Fellowship through Moria based on smell at one point.
