In the Star Wars universe, Kanan is a Jedi Padawan who survived the Great Jedi Purge after his master, Depa Billaba, sacrificed herself to save him.
History. Caleb Dume was still a Padawan when he escaped Order 66, hiding his Jedi abilities and assuming the name Kanan Jarrus. He spent years doing odd jobs and developing a reputation as a hothead and a roughneck, with no purpose to his life. But that changed when he met Hera Syndulla.

Jacen Syndulla was the son of Hera Syndulla and Kanan Jarrus. Having a Human father and a Twi'lek mother, his species was a hybrid and he was born sometime after the liberation of Lothal.
Mission to Mathas. Padawan Windu was trained in the ways of the Force by Jedi Master Cyslin Myr.
Kanan Jarrus
Yoda contacted Kanan through the Force whilst Ezra was being tested in the Lothal Jedi Temple. Whilst talking to Kanan, he told him how he should believe in Ezra. Yoda and Kanan also knew each other during the Clone Wars when Kanan was still called Caleb Dume.
Known survivors. It was said that fewer than one hundred Jedi—approximately one percent of the entire Order—survived Order 66.

Kanan was shocked to find out that Vader is not a Inquisitor but he is a Sith Lord, Kanan was injured in the duel. He later described to Ahsoka the feelings of anger and hate he felt from Vader's presence.
Toward the end of season one, fans learned Kanan Starks' (Mekai Curtis) biological father was Detective Malcolm Howard (Omar Epps).
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Kanan had a Jedi Holocron that contained Obi-Wan's message; regarding the fall of the the Republic and that the surviving Jedi must go into hiding until the time was right for them to come out of exile, it is unknown if the two had met or knew each other.
One such connection exists between the protagonist, Kanan Jarrus (formerly Caleb Dume), and the legendary Jedi Master Mace Windu from the prequel trilogy. The connection they share is simple, yet profound: Mace Windu's apprentice, Depa Billaba, was the Jedi Master who trained Kanan.
Jacen Syndulla was born to General Hera Syndulla of the Rebel Alliance on the planet Lothal in 0 BBY. His father was Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus, who was killed in combat before Syndulla was born against the Galactic Empire while saving Hera and their crew shortly before Lothal's liberation.
She is portrayed by Patina Miller. Raq serves as one of the main protagonists in season 1-3. She was also mentioned in Power Season 2. Raq is Kanan's mother.
As Anakin's powers grew, Mace Windu's respect for Anakin grew, but his trust never did.

Then Kanan has a confrontation with Ghost at a warehouse and the two fight and have a bloody, fiery showdown. Ghost stabs Kanan and then burns the house down, thinking he's dead. However, it is suggested that Kanan survives and it is discovered that someone broke out of the warehouse during the fire.
Hera prayed to Gaia to give her a son as strong as Zeus, then slapped the ground and became pregnant.
Kanan is the twins' [Tariq/Raina's] father, and that's why he all of a sudden wants to help in the Season 4 finale.
