1 - Katherine Pierce
Katherine is undoubtedly one of the most popular characters on the show. She is a centuries-old vampire who is both cunning and powerful. Her story arc is filled with twists and turns, and she is often manipulating the characters around her.
Stefan loved Elena more than anyone else and was entirely devoted to her. They both wanted to pursue a human life, whereas Damon enjoyed being a vampire.
Caroline Forbes had a crush on Stefan ever since the pilot, and although they both dated other people, it was obvious that she never stopped liking him.
Despite their lack of screentime, Klaroline is considered the best ship in The Vampire Diaries by a number of fans. Caroline still sees Klaus as the villain during the opener, but once the season 4 episode "Graduation" rolls around, it's apparent that she's come to view him in a different light.
Stefan Salvatore was the most selfless character on The Vampire Diaries.
Caroline is actually Stronger, but Elena was trained to kill vampires as a human. They both fought when Elena had her humanity off and she almost killed Caroline.
Not only did Caroline gain control of her blood lust quickly, but her character development only got better after her transition into a vampire. Of all the vampires in The Vampire Diaries, Caroline Forbes was the best of the bunch.
Caroline Forbes
The journey of Caroline is what fans love about her. She is this insecure girl who is sometimes not the nicest to her friends. But once she becomes a vampire, her personality changes and she becomes a huge threat to her enemies.
Bonnie Bennett
Bonnie is the most powerful, yet most underestimated character in The Vampire Diaries. She has the ability to call on an entire line of witches, and as a Bennett, she has extraordinary strength. Not only can she solve all the characters' problems, but no supernatural creature can best her in a fight.
In "The Vampire Diaries," lead Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) was 17 at the start of the series, while vampire brothers Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) were 162 and 169 years old, respectively (as the show explains within the first season).
Not one to limit herself, Katherine had affairs with both brothers.
Zach Roerig, Michael Trevino and Paul Wesley originally auditioned to play Damon before landing their respective roles.
By Jennifer Lind-Westbrook Published Sep 11, 2021 Damon pined for Katherine for over a century on The Vampire Diaries, but Katherine claimed Stefan was her 'one true love.
1 Camille O'Connell
Even with this, several valid opinions within the fandom argue against Camille being his ultimate love interest. However, these talking points pale in comparison to Klaus' words to Camille as she drew her last breath in Season 3, Episode 19.
In the season 4 finale, an unsired Elena confirms that she is in love with Damon, and the two kiss passionately. At the end of season 6, the two plan to become human, get married, and have children together, but their dream is abruptly compromised by Kai, who puts Elena into a magical coma.
DELENA: More Passion and Danger
While Stefan offered Elena a sense of safety and stability, Damon gave her danger and passion. He allowed Elena the freedom to explore who she was regardless of morality. He sparked a passion in her that let her get in touch with her inner bad girl.
