She concluded her mass murder by killing Professor Xavier, arguably the most powerful telepath in the Marvel universe. The mere fact that she can single-handedly destroy five of Earth's mightiest heroes easily makes her the strongest MCU character.
However, the situation changes when we're talking about MCU, 'Multiverse of Madness' Wanda could rival Thanos and even defeat him considering that her powers have been upgraded significantly. If Thanos has the Infinity Gauntlet in the MCU, he wins, however.
1) Doctor Strange
Additionally, Doctor Strange's years of training have made him an expert combatant, able to adapt to any situation quickly. It's no wonder he is considered one of the most powerful Avengers and a worthy opponent for Scarlet Witch.
In the MCU, then it's Scarlet Witch. In the comics, however, Hulk would absolutely obliterate Scarlet Witch. He hasn't been given the title “strongest one there is” for nothing.
Scarlet Witch's most important aspect in this fight is that she has the ability to defeat Superman. He is not impervious to magic, so her hits will damage him.
Thor is strong; Wanda is powerful. Power doesn't have to mean raw strength, but the tremendous demonstration of one's own ability. Thor could beat Wanda in an arm wrestling contest, but Thor is still susceptible to Wanda's mind powers.
While the Scarlet Witch is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe, her greatest weakness proves even Spider-Man can beat her.
This revelation sheds light on how Wanda uses her powers, and she needs her sense of sight to control her hexes. If there's one superhero who can totally beat her, it would be Spider-Man. Remember when the Webslinger covered his foe's entire face with his web? That is one of his signature moves!
Additionally, Wanda demonstrated just how powerful she was in Infinity War, when she was able to repel Thanos while simultaneously destroying Vision's Mind Stone. So it stands to reason that Wanda would have been able to single-handedly whoop Thanos into oblivion, had he not called in cover fire from above.
In 2015, it was revealed in Uncanny Avengers (Vol. 2) #4 that she and Pietro are not mutants but humans who received superhuman genetics due to the experiments of the High Evolutionary. In Wanda's case, the High Evolutionary's genetic tampering made her more powerful in magic than she would have been otherwise.
The Verdict: Scarlet Witch Is Stronger Than Captain Marvel
That said, Wanda has an edge due to Chaos Magic and her reality-warping abilities. Her telekinesis alone could nearly kill Thanos faster than Carol's punches. Now, as the Scarlet Witch, she doesn't even have to move objects with her mind to get what she wants.
Both are extremely powerful, but in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, Wanda demonstrates the extent of her powers like never before. So in terms of raw force, she is definitely the more powerful of the two. Stephen, however, benefits from years of training as the Sorcerer Supreme.
Scarlet witch's biggest weakness is her durability. The only mode of defence was her powers. So her durability depended on her powers. She had two different stages in her power: before Infinity war and after Endgame.
The canon proves that Wanda Maximoff does become a villain several times, but she almost always finds her way back to the side of heroism. She awakens from a brainwashed state and decides to spend time in solitude after the events of Avengers Disassembled, but officially returns to the Avengers in Avengers vs. X-Men.
Wanda was neither an evil being nor was she the real antagonist. Wanda was only a villain because the Darkhold corrupted her. Compared to the threat of a Sinister Strange in the making, the Scarlet Witch was only grieving on her terms.
1 The Avengers Always End Up Defeating Scarlet Witch
As powerful as Scarlet Witch is, she's never been able to beat her friends. In fact, the biggest drawback to her regular defeats by the Avengers is that they never actually try to get her the help she needs.
Wanda Maximoff Is the Most Powerful MCU Character
Since its inception, the MCU has frequently introduced heroes and villains weaker than their comic book counterparts. It's an understandable creative choice, as giving your stories high stakes is easier when the heroes saving the world are vulnerable.
Thor, the god of Thunder, was undoubtedly the most powerful member of the original Avengers. His power continues to grow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Although characters like Magneto and Storm can beat MCU's Wanda in a fight, Scarlet Witch's powers in the comics can only be compared to a handful of other Marvel characters. That short list includes Kevin MacTaggert, also known as Proteus, an energy-hungry mutant whose body cannot contain the amount of power he has.
However, things could go the other way around too, with the red superhero throwing Scarlet Witch off her game with his words and getting the best of her. That being said, the latter's powers are beyond the merc's control, so it's safe to say Wanda will take down Deadpool with The Darkhold.
In Doctor Strange 2, Black Bolt's mouth was removed by Scarlet Witch. Panicked, Black Bolt tied to speak, causing his brain to implode from the power of his own voice, which was still destructive as ever. However, Black Bolt would likely have annihilated Wanda with a single word.
While Odin is the god with the power originally. Odin knows magic just as well as Wanda does, shown through his enchantments, and some of his feats. Odin wins, unless he falls into the odinsleep.
Wanda Maximoff's magic is so powerful that she can feasibly stand toe-to-toe with some of Marvel's Cosmic beings. These characters are literal gods, but Scarlet Witch's magic puts her roughly on their level.
