As a proud Hufflepuff, I believe that one of the greatest mysteries that has yet to be answered in the Harry Potter series is why the spiteful and obnoxious Zacharias Smith was sorted into the house known for its kindness and loyalty.
Zacharias Smith just gave Hufflepuffs a bad name in general. Every time we saw Zacharaias he was being a jerk. He constantly complained about everything and always had an attitude. Despite all of this, surprisingly, Zacharias still decided to become a member of Dumbledore's Army and stuck it out until the end.

Hufflepuffs are supposedly defined by strong loyalty, disinterest in public glory, and a hardworking spirit. Perhaps that's why they don't stand out: Hufflepuffs have an ethos of self-improvement, while Gryffindors are brave, Ravenclaws preternaturally smart, and Slytherins deeply ambitious.
