So the only reason Muzan is afraid of Tanjiro is because of the Hanafuda earrings he possesses, which acted as a reminder of his downfall. nxt. Hanafuda Earrings are a symbol of Sun Breathing users, traditionally passed down from generation to generation as a family heirloom.
Even 400 years later, Muzan's fear of Yoriichi remained fully intact, as simply laying eyes on Tanjiro's hanafuda earrings caused him to recall their clash.
Muzan does this to continue his demon legacy and live in this world even after being dead. He chooses Tanjiro over everyone else as he considers him the perfect one to carry on his legacy. Muzan passes on his feelings and powers to Tanjiro, and he successfully turnsTanjiro into the new Demon King.
Tanjiro certainly did a lot of good with his Water Breathing techniques, but his ability to use Sun Breathing both gives him an edge in battle and allows him to stand out among the incredibly powerful Hashira he fights alongside.

Of course, the one who takes the top spot in terms of the best swords in Demon Slayer is Tanjiro's black Nichirin blade.

The Mugen Train arc was recently animated into Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train, but the manga wraps this arc up by showing Rengoku's father gift Tanjiro his son's flame hilt.
His lovely smithee: Haganezuka just makes him a new one (after death threats and chasing him around with knives—). Tanjiro does keep Rengoku's little charm piece that was one his sword though.
Akaza was also one of Muzan's favorite demons out of all his subordinates. The reason behind this is Akaza's extreme loyalty to his master. The Upper Rank Three demon was always sent away on special missions, something the Upper Rank 1 and 2 were often denied of.
Yoriichi was incredibly proficient in his Sun Breathing, being able to take down demons effortlessly and even overwhelm the Demon King and strongest Upper Rank.
Since he didn't know anything about the Blue Spider Lily medicine, he needed others to find the plant for him by happenstance. This is the general reason why Muzan turned Nezuko into a demon. More specifically though, was the fact that Nezuko was of Kamado blood.
For those who have watched only the first season of the anime, they will be surprised to know that Muzan turns into a woman in the second season. He keeps transforming in order to hide his true identity, and he's even known to change into an 11-year-old child to hide from Demon slayers.

Moreover, while she was asleep, Urokodaki performed a unique hypnotism on Nezuko, making her believe that all humans are her family and she must not hurt them in any way. With her immense fondness for humanity, Nezuko broke out of Muzan's control, becoming free to do anything at her will.

Tanjiro then noticed that the other civilians were either dead or badly injured. This enraged him, and he soon stopped breathing, pushing himself beyond his body's limits. His eyes subsequently started to fill with blood seeping into the sclera of his eyes.
To become a member of the Demon Slayer Corps, he had to clear the Final Selection. During this event, Tanjiro received a massive blow to his head from the Hand Demon that killed many of Urokodaki's students. This increased the size of his scar and changed the color as well.
