Thor (from Old Norse: Þórr) is a prominent god in Germanic paganism. In Norse mythology, he is a hammer-wielding god associated with lightning, thunder, storms, sacred groves and trees, strength, the protection of humankind, hallowing, and fertility.
He is temperamental, with red hair and bushy eyebrows. Thor has three mighty objects that he uses in the fight for order and against chaos and giants: Mjölnir, the hammer that hits whatever he throws it at, Megingjord, the belt of power that doubles his strength, and a pair of iron gloves.
Thor was the defender of Asgard, realm of the gods, and Midgard, the human realm, and is primarily associated with protection through great feats of arms in slaying giants.
Thor, the powerful god of thunder in Norse mythology, was the mighty defender of gods and goddesses, who were constantly under siege by the forces of chaos. Thor was the most popular god in the Norse pantheon, and his many exploits are recalled in many myths and tales—far more than any other Norse god or goddess.
Thor's name was the Germanic word for thunder. He was a warrior who had enormous strength. In pictures he was shown as a large man with a red beard. He always had with him a magic hammer called Mjollnir.
Created by artist Jack Kirby, writer Stan Lee, and scripter Larry Lieber, the character first appeared in Journey into Mystery #83 (August 1962), debuting in the Silver Age of Comic Books. Thor is based on the Norse mythological god of the same name.
Thor is a noble warrior and a man of honor. He has dislike of mortal technology and science for creating supervillains and admires heroes with courage, honor, compassion, and the gift of battle. He was very wise about mortal tales and criticizing villains about their abilities they boasted.
Thor is often compared to Herakles in his function in the Norse society as well as his basic personality. Thor was hot-tempered and unpredictable in the same way as Herakles. Thor was also known for his incredible appetite for food and drink. He was the strongest of the gods and served as their protector and defender.
Thor Odinson (often called The Mighty Thor) is a Marvel Comics superhero, based on the thunder god of Norse mythology. The superhero was created by editor Stan Lee and penciller Jack Kirby, who co-plotted, and scripter Larry Lieber, and first appeared in Journey into Mystery #83 (Aug.
Thor is considered an Aesir god. In Germanic or Norse mythology, an Aesir god is a warrior god, which is why Thor is commonly seen in combat in his later life. Thor is from a realm of gods called Asgard and a realm of humans called Midgard. Asgard is similar to Mount Olympus in Greek mythology.
Worthy Warrior and Weaponry
Thor, son of Gods, has enhanced longevity, augmented by the Golden Apples of Idunn. He also possesses superhuman strength, speed, agility, durability and immunity to most diseases.
Marvel comics has announced that Thor is becoming a woman.
Marvel says they have been ignored in comics. So as Thor is turned from a male character to a female one, see some other famous characters who've swapped.
While many things could be said of early MCU Thor, it was clear that he was one of the most selfless heroes of the bunch.
Thor / Odin
In the comics, The Norse God of Thunder can destroy planets, control the weather (including summoning lightning bolts), fly through space at the speed of light, and even break adamantium. That's right, Thor could smash Wolverine's metal skeleton if he wanted to. He has beyond class 100 strength.
Thor is the secondary antagonist of the Norse Era of the God of War video game franchise, serving as a cameo antagonist in the 2018 video game God of War and the secondary antagonist of its 2022 sequel God of War: Ragnarök. He is based on the mythological Norse figure of the same name.
Thor was born approximately 1500 years ago to Odin, the King of Asgard, and Frigga. He was raised on Asgard as the crown prince, alongside his brother, Loki.
Determination. Thor is known for having a bad temper, yet his determination is also among his biggest flaws. Thor's perseverance is a weakness since it puts his life in danger because he continues putting himself in dangerous situations.
Thor's wife was Sif, a golden-haired fertility goddess, with whom he had a daughter, Thrudr (Strength). He was also the father of two sons, Modi (Courage) and Magni (Strength), by Jarnsaxa, a giantess, and stepfather of Sif's son Ull.
Odin created a cave in Norway where Jord gave birth to Thor. Months after the infant Thor was weaned, Odin brought him to Asgard to be raised. Odin's wife, the goddess Frigga, acted as Thor's mother from that time onward, and for many years Thor believed her to be his birthmother.
Thor's strength comes from being an Asgardian – a superhuman entity who can live for centuries and perform astonishing feats no human is capable of. This includes using the Bifrost to call the hammer Mjolnir into battle.
I think later in mythology he is given full godhood, as the god of strength. Thor's parents (same father different mother's) are different in the comics and MCU, but all three are God's making him a god.
Thor was tasked with guarding Asgard, the stronghold of the gods and goddesses. He also wielded one of the most powerful weapons in the universe, Mjölnir his unique hammer, which was capable of leveling mountains and slaying giants.
“I dreamed up Thor years ago because I wanted to create the biggest, most powerful superhero of all and I figured who can be bigger than a god?” says Lee, who co-created Thor with Jack Kirby, who had drawn his version of a Norse superhero for Sandman in the '50s before the two teamed up for Marvel's Thor.
