Dolores Umbridge is, in many ways, more of a villain than Voldemort himself. While the Dark Lord is the archetypal book and movie “bad guy”—power-hungry, twisted, sinister for sinister's sake, Umbridge is much more pernicious. Pink cardigans and kittens thinly veil a cruelty that rivals most Dark Wizards.
He conquered more of the globe and could perform more advanced forms of magic. He might still be controlling much of the world if it weren't for his greatest weakness -- his feelings for Dumbledore. Not only is Grindelwald more powerful than Voldemort, but he's also a more compelling villain.
Arguably more hated and more dangerous than Voldemort himself, there are many reasons why Dolores Umbridge is the most hated Harry Potter character. He who should not be named makes the number one spot. Voldemort is known for his viciously evil nature. He has wiped out entire generations of Wizards for standing against him, and his power in the dark arts knows no equal.
Like Tom Marvolo Riddle (aka Voldemort), Merlin was a Slytherin, an ambitious, powerful wizard. He was a wizarding legend, and, of course, more powerful than the Dark Lord. According to the Harry Potter Wiki, Merlin was “arguably one of the most powerful wizards of all time”.
Harry's other best friend, the bookish and kind Hermione Granger can't be beaten in the classroom. Harry recognizes her as his year's best student and even said so at some point. But while Hermione can ace any test, she can't quite keep up with Harry on the battlefield.
The book also discusses Riddle's hatred of Muggles, his obsession with Horcruxes, and his desire to split his soul to achieve immortality. Rowling stated Voldemort's conception under the influence of a love potion symbolises the coercive circumstances under which he was brought into the world.
Voldemort's greatest fear is death and as a result a boggart takes the form of his own corpse. It is unsurprising that this is Voldemort's biggest fear. After all, he did split his soul up encasing it in various horcruxes just so to keep himself from dying.
Bellatrix Lestrange was Lord Voldemort's equal in cruelty, if not worse than him. She was unparalleled when it came up to committing some of the most horrible acts of cruelty and destruction. She truly belonged to the Dark side and loved to embrace it.
Minerva McGonagall
To be fair, it was McGonagall, Horace Slughorn, and Kingsley Shacklebolt who dueled Voldemort at the same time. Sadly, he incapacitated all three of them after being enraged at the news of Bellatrix Lestrange's death.
The Killing Curse was created in the early Middle Ages by Dark witches and wizards. Primarily, the curse was used to quickly slay opponents during a duel.
We would have to give the victory to Darth Vader. While the two dark lords seem perfectly matched on their villainy and power, Darth Vader's lightsaber and ability to immediately use the force to choke Voldemort, without chanting any spell would end this showdown in seconds.
House-elves could perform magic beyond that of a wizard
Dobby frequently demonstrated himself to be immensely powerful, causing Lucius Malfoy himself to back down with just a point of his finger.
The Horcruxes Left Him Vulnerable & Weak
Although they did give Voldemort another chance to join the living after his curse against Harry Potter rebounded, they harmed him in the long run.
Grindelwald apparently did not know fear, or at least did not show it. Even face-to-face with the only Dark Wizard to ever be considered more dangerous than himself, wandless and helpless, Grindelwald was openly defiant and even mocking, goading Voldemort into killing him.
Without a doubt, the most powerful wizard in Middle-earth is Gandalf the White. While Gandalf was always a reasonably powerful wizard in his own right, facing off against the Balrog in the Mines of Moria, a battle that took ten days and resulted in the mutual demise of Gandalf and the Balrog.

1 Lord Voldemort
Considered the most powerful dark wizard of all time, Voldemort was obsessed with his own half-blood ancestry and his search for power and immortality. To achieve the latter, he used his enemies' murders to fracture his soul into six and create his own set of Horcruxes.
Barry Wee Willie Winkle (b. 14 August, 1236) was the oldest known wizard in the 1990s, when he reached the age of 755. To celebrate the occasion, he held a massive party, inviting every wizard and witch he had ever known, a total of thirty million people. It was one of the biggest parties in wizarding history.
Although he was intelligent and bookish, Quirinus Quirrell was the weakest of the Hogwarts professors—mostly due to his extremely timid nature.
Ekrizdis is a minor yet pivotal antagonist in the Harry Potter universe. He was an immensely evil wizard who lived in the 15th century in medieval Britain, it is believed he was either the creator of the Dementors or that his insane experiments and torture caused the Dementors to first manifest.
