Imperial Stormtroopers. When Chewbacca fixes C-3PO, one of the first things the Protocol Droid does is exclaim his shock that there are Imperial Stormtroopers. Obviously he was oblivious to the fact before his incident, but not afterward. Putting two and two together, he was shot by Stormtroopers.
They shot C-3PO as payback for him causing their capture years earlier on the Tantive IV.
During the ensuing battle, both of C-3PO's "bodies" were knocked out during the fighting. Fortunately for him, he was promptly reattached to his rightful body by R2-D2. Following the events on Geonosis, C-3PO and R2-D2 travelled to Naboo with Skywalker and Amidala for the two to be married in Naboo's Lake Country.
He is damaged often, but one of his friends is always there to save him from complete destruction. C-3PO does pay them back, however, through his constant friendship and loyalty. His influence on the galaxy is much greater than most would assume, and C-3PO is a hero in his own right by the end of the Skywalker Saga.
C-3PO stays behind with Shmi when Anakin leaves for Tatooine with Padmé and Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn to begin his Jedi training. The protocol droid later went with Shmi to another home when she went to live with moisture farmer Cliegg Lars.
He does. In the comic Star Wars Tales #6, we see an interaction between Vader and C-3PO. In the comic, Boba Fett brings Vader C-3PO's remains. Vader instantly recognizes C-3PO, and is reminded of his childhood.
C-3PO: Alive with most of his memories intact. Babu Frik: Alive to kill us with his cuteness. Snap Wexley: Dead (even though Greg Grunberg is one of J.J.
Vader himself saves Threepio from destruction in the final pages of Marvel's Star Wars, before the series gets a relaunch taking place after Empire Strikes Back.
The name derives from when Lucas was making one of his earlier films, American Graffiti. Sound editor Walter Murch states that he is responsible for the utterance which sparked the name for the droid. Murch asked for Reel 2, Dialog Track 2, in the abbreviated form "R-2-D-2".
Obi-Wan Kenobi's R2-D2 and C-3PO cameos occur at different points in the show's first episode, as they are not shown on screen at the same time. Star Wars' C-3PO's appearance comes first as he is seen repeatedly in the background of the Organa's party.
Spoiler alert: C-3PO and R2-D2 make a cameo appearance at the end of the film and many were quick to point out that it doesn't tally with Star Wars: Epsiode IV: A New Hope.
This Star Wars rumor, at least, is a true one. Well, mostly true, anyway. According to The Telegraph, the two Star Wars actors didn't have the underlying appreciation for each other that their constantly-bickering characters did. But the extent of their hatred for each other may have been exaggerated.
The base assumption of why Obi-Wan doesn't remember R2-D2 -- in light of the prequels -- is that Obi-Wan is feigning ignorance in A New Hope to downplay the importance of the droid's arrival.
Shortly after the Galactic Empire was formed, Bail Organa had C-3PO's memory wiped clean in order for the droid to not spill any confidential information.
Weakened after their greed and lust for power caused infighting amongst themselves, the Sith were all but destroyed by Jedi Knights.
Star Wars Theory: R2-D2 Didn't Know Anakin Skywalker Became Darth Vader. R2-D2 served Queen Amidala and later Anakin Skywalker, accompanied by C-3PO. Unlike the golden protocol droid, R2-D2 never had a full memory wipe, so he was well aware of all events that happened around him.
Do R2D2 and C3PO know that Darth Vader is Anakin? Threepio had his memory wiped at the end of Revenge of the Sith. He doesn't even know Anakin was Anakin.
Zayne showed talent in the Force, as many expected, being Rey's son, but the boy was never trained by his mother. Instead, Rey kept her life as a Jedi Master and as a mother separate from her son, reasons being unknown to anyone for close to twenty years.
Even though Anakin didn't build R2-D2 like he did with C-3PO, the Tatooine padawan became best buds with the booping and beeping bot.
Following Palpatine's final defeat and her own resurrection, Rey adopts the name Rey Skywalker to honor her mentors and their family legacy and renounce her lineage.
Unfortunately, the entire chapter is told from Yoda's perspective, so it's unknown if R2-D2 recognized Yoda as well. One would imagine he did, since he did not have his memory wiped in Revenge of the Sith, and Yoda has a very distinct appearance and manner of speech.
Yes, he remembers everything about his past (just not based on reality), but he probably doesn't spend a lot of time thinking about it, and when he does, his memory of things is clouded and twisted by the lies of the sith, the dark side, and his own flawed thinking and character.
It was easy to believe that Darth Vader had kind intentions or a simple code of honor for the Sith, but his plans were much more strategic. Instead, Darth Vader wanted to keep Chewbacca alive because he wanted the Rebels to collectively suffer even more. He wanted them to be weak.
