On the TV series The Originals, a spinoff of the popular show The Vampire Diaries, brothers Klaus and Elijah Mikaelson were killed off, a move that signified the end for Klaus' redemption journey. Klaus and Elijah's deaths set up the foundations for Legacies.

Damon stakes Alaric
Damon mentioned he knew Alaric's wife and "found her delicious." Seeking revenge, Alaric traveled to the Salvatore house with a stake in hand. Damon tried to explain he didn't kill Alaric's wife before Alaric attacked him. In the fight, Damon got the stake and killed Alaric.
Alaric/Klaus takes Elena and Bonnie away and reveals them that he is Klaus.
On The Originals, Klaus found redemption before his death, sacrificing himself to save his daughter. Legacies revealed if Klaus found peace. In The Originals series finale, brothers Elijah and Klaus Mikaelson died, staking each other with White Oak, and the show's spinoff Legacies addressed what happened next.
After Klaus sacrificed himself to save the family Hayley spent five years raising Hope and searching for ways to bring their family back. Hayley kept Klaus' memory alive for Hope as she told her daughter things about her father such as his loyalty to his family and how much he loved her.
She tricks him into meeting Reginald where his dad then confirms that he's 'already dead' but later on he wakes up on the dance floor after being sent back to life. Klaus subsequently discovered that he was effectively immortal, resurrecting himself every time that he died.

In Girl in New Orleans, Hayley smiles when Rebekah say that she talked with Elijah and he asked her to take care of Hayley. Elijah and Hayley are reunited.
Freya could only resurrect Elijah because she placed his soul in her pendant. If she failed to do so she wouldn't have been able to. Hope can not use that spell to resurrect Klaus because Klaus isn't in Freya's pendant and circumstances aren't the same. Same with Davina resurrecting people.

Even though Alaric was only 18 years old when Hope was born, he never felt like she was holding him back. In fact, being a single father propelled Alaric to want a better future for his daughter. Up until her adoptive mother's death, Hope and Alaric had a deep father-daughter relationship.
Alaric is Elena's step-father and second legal guardian after Jenna. Alaric drank Elena's blood to become a vampire. Elena once killed Alaric, though she did so only to ensure he would return to life while wearing the Gilbert ring.
Perhaps the most noteworthy moment, and the biggest tearjerker, from the finale is the return of Joseph Morgan as Klaus Mikaelson. Fans have been clamoring for a Klaus appearance since Season 1 and, as Hope's father, it seemed only natural he'd find a way to see her even from the afterlife.
While Damon is already holding onto Katherine while waiting for the hellfire to kill both of them, Stefan injects the cure to Damon. Stefan saves Damon, who is now a human, and dies with Katherine.
