This is confirmed later in the movie when Obi-Wan informs Padme that Anakin killed them. Both are torn apart with hurt and confusion, trying to make sense of something so terrible.
In Star Wars canon, there are currently only four younglings that are known to have survived the infamous Order 66 and Darth Vader's slaughter, while in Legends, there are 20 known survivors.
When Palpatine attacked Luke with the power of the dark side, Vader saved his son's life by killing his master. Thus Vader renounced his loyalty to the Sith, and returned to his Jedi ideals. Anakin Skywalker succumbed to injuries inflicted by the Emperor.
