Just moments after Jimmy's death, Dan walks into the school, picks up the gun, and kills Keith without a second thought or a single witness (or so we thought), ultimately framing Jimmy for the murder.

Lucas then begs once again and Abby remembers Dan picking up the gun and shooting Keith before confirming that it was Dan who shot Keith.

Brooke and Peyton find out that Ian had a girlfriend named Maggie Watterson who was killed when the two got into an accidental car accident and that the girl bore a striking resemblance to Peyton, explaining why Ian was so infatuated with her.
Dan was never a dad to Lucas, there were times where he was close to being one but it just never happened. To Lucas he was more of a birthfather who killed the only "dad" he had. While Dan was awful to Nathan he was always his dad which for some isn't something that can easily be given up.
