Internet service provider (ISP)
Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)
With an optical fibre leading directly to the premises, FTTP is generally said to be the highest performing nbn connection type.

5G speed in Australia
Currently, you can expect 5G speeds between 100Mbps and 1Gbps in Australia. In our testing around Sydney, we got average speeds of 500Mbps on Telstra and Optus, and 250Mbps on Vodafone. Exact speeds will depend on the coverage, congestion, and interference. 5G speeds also stand to get faster.
5G broadband has an advantage over some types of NBN that use copper cabling. WhistleOut states that 5G plans can provide speeds of up to 200Mbps or higher. In areas that use slower connection types, like Fibre to the Node (FTTN) or Fixed Wireless, typically cap at 100Mbps.
Aussie Broadband has a overall rating of 4.6 out of 5 based on 61 reviews over the last 24 months. Aussie Broadband is an excellent broadband internet provider according to reviews submitted to this site. TPG has an overall rating of 3.8 out of 5 based on 40 reviews over the last 24 months.
NBN alternative #2: 4G home wireless broadband
If you're not lucky enough to live in an area with 5G coverage, 4G home wireless broadband might be the next best thing. This type of internet plan works much the same way as 5G home wireless does, but the speeds involved are a bit slower.
The growth of 5G networks doesn't mean 4G is going away. Mobile carriers will use existing 4G LTE networks to provide their customers' cell service well into the next decade. 5G networks will work with 4G — not outright replace it. The upshot is that 5G-capable cell phones will still use 4G technology.
Optus wins the 5G Download Speed award outright
In our last report, our Optus and Telstra users observed the joint fastest download speeds when connected to 5G. This time around, Optus is the sole winner of the 5G Download Speed award with a lead of 42.8 Mbps (18.6%) over second-placed Telstra.
Looking at the average overall download speeds of our 5G users (Download Speed Experience – 5G users), Optus and Telstra share first place with statistically tied scores of 80.5-81.2Mbps, while Vodafone is in third place with 61.9Mbps.
If you want to stream 4K content to get the best picture on your smart TV, you'll need at least 25 Mbps to do so. Lower-resolution content is less demanding but even streaming 1080p HD video requires a 10 Mbps plan for smooth performance. This assumes you only stream video to a single device at a time.
An internet speed of at least 25Mbps is good for Wi-Fi. That will make sure that multiple people get adequate bandwidth on your Wi-Fi network while multiple devices are being used at the same time. For larger households, a speed of 100Mbps is even better.
Assuming that you can access both 5G and the nbn™, there are a couple of different considerations to take into account in determining which option is right for you. Speeds: 5G home internet speeds are considerably faster than most NBN plans currently on the market. A very common NBN plan is 50Mbps.
