Early on in season 4, we find out that the perpetrator of the Dutton attacks was a prisoner named Terrell Riggins. Riggins apparently hired a local militia to gun down, blow up, and ambush John, Kayce, and Beth.
In Season 4, his biological father even tried to have the Duttons killed in order to make room for Jamie to shine. It seemingly made little sense for the self-serving Jamie to murder his only ally.
He is an anti-government mercenary facing a life sentence. He was incarcerated for 20 years but still kept tabs on his network from the inside. He ordered the coordinated attack on the Duttons as he was hired to, knowing the Duttons took out many of his soldiers in the Crazies.
When Jamie looks into Riggins' case file, he discovers that his own birth father once shared a cell with the man behind all the Dutton family attacks. Yeah, buddy. That means that in a kind of tangential way, Jamie is definitely responsible for John and Kayce's near assassinations.
Jamie's Betrayal Was Totally Justified, According to Yellowstone Fans.
The underlying reason for John Dutton's dislike of Jamie is their differing personality and views on life. It is why they often fight, argue, and even work against each other in various stages of their life. Of course, it's also possible that John dislikes Jamie because he's adopted and not a true-blooded Dutton.
Beth finds out too, but still believes her least favorite brother had something to do with it. She gives Jamie three options: Spend life in prison, be tortured and killed by Rip, or eliminate Garret himself.
What's more, is Beth is now officially a mother. She adopted a son (Carter) after finally marrying Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) in season four.
While the main focus of the series three finale was on the Dutton attacks, Jimmy's life was also at risk. He fell off his horse yet again at the Dutton Ranch despite John's words of warning and was left unconscious.
Jimmy was always getting into trouble. He used to cook meth for 2 drug dealers, Ray and Blake. Somewhere along the way, he wound up owing Ray 8 grand. His grandfather reached out to the Duttons to hire him on and keep him out of trouble.

A Tennessee farmer, James fought for the Confederate Army in the Civil War before making his way out West with his family. Margaret, likewise, was an army nurse. The caravan was heading toward Oregon, but the Dutton family had to settle in Montana after the death of their daughter, Elsa (Isabel May).
In "Yellowstone," we see glimpses of Beth taking on the role of confidante and caretaker for her younger brother, Kayce, as well as her father, John. This may have fostered resentment in Evelyn, who could feel threatened by Beth's usurpation of traditional maternal roles.

His father beat his mother to death when Jamie was three months old. Jamie was then adopted by Evelyn Dutton and her husband John, and he came to live with a ranching family.
Why Did John Dutton Adopt Jamie? In a shocking revelation of Yellowstone Season 3, we found out that Jamie is in fact adopted. He was only three months old when his father beat his mother to death and the Duttons took him under their wing. It is not known why John and Evelyn Dutton adopted Jamie.
John calls Rip "son" in the flashback scene at the beginning of the episode, and later Rip affectionately refers to Carter as "son" too.
But despite Beth's comment to Rip, they have both resisted becoming Carter's parental figures. In Yellowstone Season 4, Episode 3, "All I See Is You," Rip told Beth "He's not our son. No matter who he becomes, he never will be.
As a teenager, Beth fell pregnant and asked her older brother, Jamie to accompany her to a clinic for a termination. Instead, Jamie and the doctor agreed to give Beth a hysterectomy without her consent, leaving her infertile for the rest of her life.
While she is scared that it may damage her relationship with Rip, Beth does tell him about her being sterile.
After Jamie learned about his adoption, he asked Kayce for a favor, saying, “I need some advice, brother… If I can still call you that.” Kayce replies to him, “Until the day you die, you better never call me anything else.” This implies that Kayce had an inkling about the adoption.
Rip assures her that the fact she can't have children doesn't change how he feels about her. What is this? While Beth tells Rip she is not able to have children, she does not go into detail. Beth does not mention that she was pregnant with Rip's baby and that Jamie agreed to her sterilization without her knowledge.
