Harry Potter Movies Overlooked That
While most fans agree that Harry is the unrefuted Chosen One, the final Deathly Hallows film (in particular) sways heavily toward highlighting a heroic Neville, revitalizing the debate regarding which boy is better suited for the iconic title.
Harry Potter is the chosen one because Voldemort decided so, the prophecy could apply to both Harry or Neville, but Voldemort went after Harry and when he left part of his soul in Harry, Voldemort himself made the prophecy true and made Harry the chosen one.
In-universe wise: Because Voldemort chose Harry Potter over Neville Longbottom of whom to go after and thus ultimately marked Harry as his equal when he tried to kill him as a baby.
Indeed, Harry was the "The Chosen One" because Voldemort chose to believe that the prophecy was talking about Harry, the half-blood like himself and thus his equal. Harry survived the Killing Curse because his mother sacrificed her life for him and gave him a protection from Voldemort until he comes of age (at 17).
In the end, both were essential to Voldemort's downfall, fulfilling the possibility that both Harry and Neville were, in fact, the Chosen One. While Harry delivered the final blow to destroy Voldemort, Neville destroyed the final Horcrux which allowed Harry to end Voldemort.
Harry is the Heir of Slytherin (through his mother's side) and also related to Gryffindor (through his father's side) though the current Heir of Gryffindor is Neville.
Neville Longbottom is a hero of the wizarding world. You know the story — he kept Dumbledore's Army going at Hogwarts, he helped defend the school against Death Eaters, he proved himself to be a worthy Gryffindor by pulling the sword from the Sorting Hat and he destroyed the final Horcrux, Nagini. Not bad.
The Harry Potter movies didn't do Neville Longbottom justice for many reasons, but one narrative-defining possibility was overlooked in the movies — that Neville could have been the Chosen One, as he also fits the prophecy.
The only reason Voldemort let him talk is because he saw no threat in Neville. “It doesn't matter Harry is gone.” Neville expresses. “Stand down Neville,” is the only voice heard in the crowd of hundreds.
Some would say there's no spell worse than Avada Kedavra, the Killing Curse that Voldemort used so indiscriminately. But it's definitely not the wizarding world's only Unforgivable Curse.
Though Harry encountered many opportunities that deemed Avada Kedavra necessary, it remains as one of the Unforgivable Curses Harry Potter never cast.
Voldemort intentionally made six Horcruxes, but when he used Avada Kedavra on Harry, he unintentionally created a seventh Horcrux. Instead of dying, Lily's love for Harry created a counter 'curse' known as Sacrificial Protection and saved Harry.
Due to his humiliation in the Triwizard Tournament, Cedric eventually becomes a Death Eater and kills Neville Longbottom. Due to Neville's death, the final Horcrux Nagini was never destroyed, and as a result Voldemort is never defeated, kills Harry and takes over the Wizarding World.

If she were the Chosen One, she probably would have discovered the news for herself during a little bit of light reading (sorry Dumbledore, no need to get involved), finished off all of the Horcruxes by third year and then focused on what really mattered: her education.
Neville's parents were both Aurors, and older than Harry's parents. To choose him first would be a little dangerous. After he tried to kill Harry, he lost his power, so he didn't have the chance to try to kill Neville. This has always been asked, but is just a common misconception.

Look at Neville Longbottom – he's pure-blood and he can hardly stand a cauldron the right way up. ' Neville comes from a long-line of pure-blood wizards, although we don't know as much about the individuals as we do with some other wizarding families.
We now know that Neville ended up marrying Hannah Abbott and became Herbology Professor at Hogwarts. Plus he and his wife lived above the Leaky Cauldron. Neville finally got his happy ending – and here's why he deserved it more than anybody else.
He actually asked the Sorting Hat to place him in Hufflepuff, as he was intimidated by Gryffindor's reputation for bravery, but the Sorting Hat didn't agree. They debated it for so long, that he was close to being what is known as a Hatstall, which is a term for any student whose Sorting takes longer than five minutes.
In the Chamber itself, we see a large statue of a wizard, which Harry presumes is Salazar Slytherin. We also meet Tom Riddle, who is, as it turns out, the heir of Slytherin. Present only in spirit, he has all the same been controlling Ginny, and having her act as Slytherin's heir.

Her real parents were Daneel and Dean Novak, Pureblooded wizards. Turns out Daneel was Tom Riddles younger sister, Daneel Riddle. Of course, the Riddles were related to Salzar Slytherin himself, and this made Hermione the living heir of Slytherin. The problem with being a female Slytherin heir, is that they're cursed.
