Bruce Banner is a fictional character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) media franchise originally portrayed by Edward Norton and subsequently by Mark Ruffalo—based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name—known commonly by his alter ego, the Hulk.
Thanks to Mark Ruffalo taking over the role of Bruce Banner from Edward Norton in the Hulk's next appearance in 2012's The Avengers, there were many debates on if The Incredible Hulk was actually canon within the MCU.
Originally, Stan Lee wanted the Hulk to be grey, but due to ink problems, the Hulk's color turned to green. This was explained by saying that the Grey Hulk was the original Hulk to appear when Banner first got hit by the Gamma Bomb.

His strength also increases with his rage, but to a significantly lesser degree. He is weaker than the Savage Hulk, but largely more intelligent. Joe Fixit is proud of working with the Italian mafia, and typically wears a pinstripe suit with a fedora.
1. Mark Ruffalo as the MCU's The Incredible Hulk (2012- ) Really, was there any doubt? Ruffalo became top dog the moment Hulk smashed the Centauri and bashed "puny god" Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in The Avengers.
depiction of the Incredible Hulk
… character was the live-action drama The Incredible Hulk (1978–82). On that show, the character was played by two men, bodybuilder Lou Ferrigno as the Hulk and actor Bill Bixby as Banner. Oscar-winning director Ang Lee created the character's first feature film, Hulk, in 2003.
Bruce's sons, Skaar and Hiro-Kala, were the result of his brief marriage to Caiera the Oldstrong during the PLANET HULK event. Before Caiera was killed in the destruction of Sakaar, she and Bruce conceived their children. Caiera reclaimed her physical form long enough for her children to be born.
Highlights. Dirk Durock ("The Swamp Thing") is very eerie as the evil Hulk and the showdown between the creatures is one of the series highlights. Bixby gives a terrific performance in this episode.
Skaar is a fictional character, a comic book superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, usually as a supporting character in stories featuring his father, the Hulk, who conceived Skaar with the extraterrestrial Caiera during the 2006–2007 "Planet Hulk" storyline.
In the original depiction of the Hulk, Stan Lee wanted him to be gray. However, due to ink problems, the Hulk became green. To fix this issue, Gray Hulk was introduced as the original Hulk when Bruce Banner was first hit by the Gamma Bomb, but further uses irradiated him to a not-so-healthy green.
Tom Cruise was also offered the role but he turned it down. Ang Lee provided motion capture and voice for the Hulk.
As a result, Norton left the franchise badly and the studio was left without a Hulk until Mark Ruffalo took over the role in 2012, appearing in 'The Avengers'. Although it happened many years ago, there was a lot of tension at the time in the statements released by both parties.
Mark Ruffalo replaced Norton due to disagreements with the production company and so did Marvel studios.
