The first known gate is the temporary one Eleven opened in 1979 that she sent Vecna through. Eleven opened the first permanent gate in 1983 after making physical contact with a Demogorgon/Vecna while in a deep psychic state.
Background. The history of the Upside Down remains mysterious. Exactly how and why it came into existence is unclear. Dustin theorised the Upside Down had existed for thousands, if not millions of years.
The Mothergate was unintentionally opened by Eleven on November 6th, 1983; Eleven was directed by Dr. Brenner to make psychic contact with the Demogorgon, an action which tore apart the fabric of typical reality, forming a rift in the wall connecting to the Upside Down.
Jim Hopper & Joyce Byers
With the help of the kids, especially Eleven, they discovered that Will was alive but trapped in the Upside Down. Hopper and Joyce broke into the lab since the Gate was located underneath the facility.
In episode 7, Vecna is revealed to be Henry Creel (played as a youngster by Raphael Luce), the son of Victor Creel (Robert Englund) and his wife Virginia (Tyner Rushing) shown in the 1950s flashbacks.
Vecna's first big credited kill was Chrissy Cunningham (Grace Van Dien). He followed that murder with canonically terrible driver Fred Benson (Logan Riley Bruner) and basketball star Patrick McKinney (Myles Truitt).
At his empire's height, Vecna was betrayed and destroyed by his most trusted lieutenant, a vampire called Kas the Bloody-Handed, using a magical sword that Vecna himself had crafted for him, now known as the Sword of Kas.
Brown is likely right in saying that no one created the Upside Down and that the parallel dimension has always existed. And if the boys' science teacher was right in saying there are “infinite variations” of our world in alternate dimensions, there could even be several versions of the Upside Down out there.
1 of Season 4 — when young Eleven sends One (Jamie Campbell Bower) into the Upside Down, where he begins to transform into Vecna. One of the most striking things about this season has been seeing the younger Eleven in contrast to you now. How did that work on your end?
The truth about the Mind Flayer
Using his powers, he was able to control it and use it to do his bidding. With this reveal you find out that 001 is the ultimate monster in all of this and that the events of Stranger Things Season 4 have opened up a new supersized portal between the dimensions.
Realizing he had tremendous psychic power, he haunted his family with visions before ultimately killing most of them. His father was framed for the murders and locked away in a mental hospital as a disturbed serial killer. Henry then found himself in the care of Brenner, who decided he wanted more kids like the boy.
Sharing more about Eleven's real father Andrew Rich could be a great way to wrap up the story.
In season 4, Peter Ballard notes that Kali was no longer at the lab in 1979. Given Kali's powers, it seems pretty self-explanatory as to how she was able to escape the lab. She either made herself invisible or was able to escape after manipulating the minds and visions of the guards.
Eleven has a memory during this episode and realizes that 001/Henry Creel (Jamie Campbell Bower) wants her to join him on his evil journey, and she banished him to the Upside Down. 001 then transformed into Vecna, the horrifying Stranger Things villain.
The Demogorgon monster was created by Spectral Motion, a creature effects company from Los Angeles that has previously collaborated with Guillermo del Toro. They just had a little over two months to finish the creature, so there wasn't much room for error.
Brenner's words make it seem like Vecna subjugated the entire Upside Down and, thereby, created the realm's hive mind. In other words, the Upside Down's hive mind is actually Vecna's mind because everything that he dominates becomes a part of him.
Provided he actually ages in the Upside Down, Vecna could be in his late 30s in 1986, the year that Stranger Things season 4, volume 1 takes place. Vecna became a monster seven years prior, when Eleven defeated the adult Henry Creel, a.k.a. Number One, at Hawkins Lab and he became banished to the Upside Down.
Dr. Brenner's children were granted powers by treating their mothers with psychedelic drugs during pregnancy. Henry Creel appears to be different, however; there's no evidence his mother ever experimented with LSD. Rather, his powers seem to be natural, developing around puberty.
The orderly, who befriended Eleven because she was the most powerful subject, tricks her into removing a chip in his skin. It turns out that the orderly is the mysterious Number One, a man named Henry Creel who came under Brenner's care after killing his parents.
Turns out he not only survived the family massacre, he caused it. Henry was put into psychiatric care after his family was killed and Dr. Brenner, alert to Henry's powers, made him 001, the very first of the kids experimented on.
Jamie Campbell Bower plays 001 in Stranger Things 4.
He gets punished with electrocution after telling Eleven that Dr. Brenner lied to her about her mother dying during childbirth.
While intending to get his revenge on Eleven and Brenner, Vecna also goes after victims who have dealt with traumatizing experiences in the past (reminiscent of his childhood and his time at the Hawkins lab).
What Does Vecna Want? Vecna's goal is to open as many gates to the Upside Down as he can, in order to help the Mind Flayer.
